They also might consider talking about a football only with the AAC.

I hope that happens, the AAC deserves BYU.

Now, they just thow sucker punches after games. See Kai Nacua vs. Memphis. Of course, he got his comeuppance.

Rumors are flying that BYU will get Wyoming in a FB H&H:
2022: Wyoming at BYU
2024: BYU at Wyoming

That leaves Air Force, Colorado St and New Mexico as the only old guard WAC/MWC founders that haven’t scheduled BYU. Looking at future schedules, I bet those 3 don’t.

Actually, last week BYU's AD gave his annual Athletic Department address and Q&A as a break-out session at BYU's Education Week. He mentioned that he is working on a series with Air Force. I was actually expecting that to be announced before this Wyoming deal. Air Force appears to have only Army and Navy scheduled in the OOC from '24 and after - so plenty of room for BYU on future schedules.

I hope BYU can get a series with Colorado St. That new stadium looks great and lots of BYU fans and alumni in Denver and Fort Collins. I note that CSU only has one OOC opponent scheduled in each of '22, '24, '27, and '28.

Looking at future schedules, Colorado St and Colorado take a 2 year break in 2021 and 2022. Maybe then? Also, I guess I didn’t realize Air Force was open in 2025. The last time BYU played Air Force was 2010. A 15 year hiatus...Leaves only New Mexico. Which would probably be a better hoops H&H since New Mexico has a solid basketball program. Not so much in FB

I will still be surprised if Wyoming does it.

I’d like a UTEP-BYU series.

The only time we have played was for a H&H in basketball like 10 years ago and the New Mexico Bowl in 2010. I remember MWC fans were rooting for UTEP since BYU just announced three months before they were leaving effective 7/1/2011.

RE: Ice thawing? BYU & Wyoming H&H football talks
I like this BYU-Wyoming series more than I thought I would. The Poinsettia Bowl a couple of years ago was an exciting game, despite the downpour. And, BYU and Wyoming have played almost 80 times over almost 100 years. That's a lot of history. And, you can see some rivalry-esque emotions in the fan base reactions to the schedule announcement.

I'm glad that BYU doesn't feel that we are too good for the Cowboys and I'm glad that Wyoming is at least attempting to bury the hatchet.

There are plenty of Wyoming fans and alumni in the SLC metro area and plenty of BYU fans and alumni in the Front Range. Within driving distance for both fan bases. However, I hope the game in Laramie is NOT in November. Brrrrr!!

BYU, Wyoming announce renewal of rivalry with future home-and-home
https://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-and-home/

if the ice is thawing between byu and the mwc...then why not offer/negotiate a nd/acc type deal for byu oly sports to the mwc???

byu would be competing with schools more of it's own size...

That’s the odd part. MWC told BYU it’s all or nothing. No football, no Olympic sports membership. Then most of the MWC ends up scheduling BYU. 9 out of the 12 schools have now scheduled BYU in FB.

Because whether us old WAC school fans like to admit it or not, BYU is a school we all love to hate and it’s a game we all look forward to. BYU still carries a brand and it’s one thing for MWC schools to live without let’s say UTEP and another is BYU.

The one school most MWC schools + UTEP won’t see on the schedule that much is old rival Utah. 9 conference games, a P5 and regional FCS game in OOC only leaves one open spot. They have Wyoming and SDSU on future schedules.

It's very different to see most of your teams play BYU every few years in the OOC schedule versus to formally affiliate and share media rights and bowl relationships.

Good point. And BYU and the AAC have been scheduling a lot of games in FB too. BYU came to Greenville last year, which was awesome. ECU played really good and got a blowout. 2 H&H’s with BYU is pretty nice for ECU since the ACC old rivals are looking to be wimping out of playing ECU in the future.

You’d think BYU and UTEP would schedule some games in FB and hoops?

I don’t see the reason why not. BYU played NMSU for a H&H so I’m sure they wouldn’t mind playing in El Paso. I think it’s more on UTEP’s part (big mistake) than BYUs. We’re talking about the same Athletic Dept that said no to a H&H with Miami (they offered to play in El Paso first), rejected Virginia and Minnesota for a H&H when Price was still the coach (the rumor was never confirmed nor denied which there’s a 99.9% chance of bring true) and said no to the MWC. Hopefully the new AD will be smarter than Stull. We’re finishing a H&H this year with Arizona and we start a new H&H with Texas Tech next year.

I remember reading an article regarding BYU & the MWC easing their relationship with each other and the article stated most of the admins who had a hard-line against BYU have moved on...hence the easing tensions between the two...

It is also nice that the games for this series are in September. That way fans can travel to the games without worrying about the late October/November I-80 Iditarod treks. I don't know that either side is thrilled with the series--but it feels right. It is good to see some rivalry games continue. There are too many of those falling by the wayside in the current NCAA.

Based on Holmoe (BYU AD) last press conference it looks like we may finally be out of our annual game with BYU. With Greg Hughes out of office (and fingers crossed going to jail) we should be able to drop BYU and get Utah State and hopefully some other MW rivals back on the schedule with some regularity.
