I think it needs a name change. . . The Lost Trophy rivalry sounds perfect for this. A battle for who is to blame for the missing reward.

04-cheers

Memphis and stAte already have that one. The ol' paint and bucket rivalry. Rumor is, after a Memphis win sometime back in the 60s or 70s, the Arkansas State contingent stopped on the Mississippi river bridge and dropped the bucket over the side into the river as opposed to turning it over to us.

Did UCF pay Scott Frost the $200k National title bonus?

"According to associate athletics director for communications Andy Seeley, UCF is distributing an additional $300,000 to the nine on-field assistants and $25,000 to the support staff, which will be divvied up at the discretion of head coach Scott Frost, who is departing for Nebraska, with the approval of athletics director Danny White."

"Frost himself will not receive any additional pay, as his bonuses were capped in his UCF contract at $250,000, a number he reached by winning the Peach Bowl."

This was all covered pretty extensively back in January...even some of the haters begrudgingly admitted that it was nice to see UCF put their money where their mouth was.

John Swofford and the ACC don’t want to expand the playoff to include a team like UCF. Or Boise back in the day, or Utah, TCU back in the day. Imagine that!....lol

All those teams should’ve had a shot.

The current system is a joke and just another BCS designed to keep the fat cat conferences controlling everything. Who gets in the “playoff” and who gets the money.
it's worse than the BCS.

It actually is worse, and some don't realize it. There is the issue of there being two at large bids in the BCS days, which one year worked out into being Boise and TCU getting an invite. The way it is set up in the CFP, is that only the highest ranked conference champion from a G5 can get it. While the number of games increased from 5 to 6. The slots available to non P5 shrinks from 2 to 1. Leaving it impossible for more than one to get in every year.

Technically that's not true. Any D-1a team ranked in the top 12 can be chosen for at-large positions in the New years 6.

I would agree that it is a little worse, but the one good thing is that with only a single G5 team getting in they have to go up against a P5 team and that gives them a shot to show they belong. Just look at what they did with Boise and TCU that year, they didn't give them the option of beating a P5 team by having them play each other.

Isn't one point of the thread that the 4 team playoff can't be exclusionary per se... if you go undefeated and win your NY bowl you will be able to properly claim a NC.

I hope any and every team that ends the year undefeated declares themselves national champions.

It needs to be highlighted that the CFP doesn't unilaterally decide the national champion, it's a tool to determine the NC on the field.

That tool was completely misused this past season by putting Alabama in over UCF. A few AP voters even had the stones to call out the committee on that by putting UCF #1 on their ballots.

Ofcourse we all know that the "playoff" isn't actually meant to determine jack ****, it was just a way to get the NCAA to approve an additional postseason game and allow ESPN to choose the teams that will generate the highest ratings.

I had been looking at a site that showed the monetary rewards of coaches contracts (data looks dated by a year). Yeah, good for UCF for paying Frost that bonus.

Two scenarios:

1. UCF is the only team without a loss in 2018

2. AAC shows strength by some other AAC team being the only without a loss.

I choose scenario #1.
