ODU got paid 1.3 million to play a school a 3 hour drive away. For a GOOD team in our conference that would be a winnable game. Id sure as hell rather get paid 1.3 million to play liberty than Oklahoma.
The optics of getting spanked by Oklahoma look much better than getting spanked by Liberty.
With reasonable certainty no team in the top half of C-USA would get spanked by Liberty. FAU, FIU, North Texas, UAB, Southern Miss, Marshall could all beat Liberty by decent margins. La Tech, Midd Tenn could win as well. Charlotte , ODU, Rice and UTEP are probably the four teams liberty could beat right now. Rice im not even sure about because they were able to put 27 points against Houston.
Probably so but you don't schedule this one with a 52-10 beating in mind.
I'll be interested to see ODU and FIU this Saturday,

I honestly believed this going into this game. I knew they had a good QB and WR, but I thought they would get abused on the lines, particularly their DL. I knew they grabbed a bunch of JUCOs, but that seems to never work. However, I can tell you that they will have a good offense this year. That QB is an incredible college QB and there aren't many G5 WRs better than AGG. What helps is they have a slot WR that is very quick as well and you can only pay so much attention to AGG. Their running game did way better than I expected and I'm not sure what to expect from it going forward.
The defense was better than I thought. They have a very good linebacker that is the brother of Jay Ajaje (however you spell). Our WRs regularly beat their secondary though.
I imagine they will be in some shootouts. I think a CUSA team that can pass very well would give them a lot of fits. I would guess FAU and North Texas would do well vs. Liberty. I haven't seen much of Marshall or UAB so don't really know.
I do not think FIU or Southern Miss would beat Liberty on a neutral field.
Really? In 2020 FIU will smoke Liberty. For the record, I think FIU is fixing to beat the brakes off ODU this weekend!! Bitter taste from last year remains.
Im talking about this year, not 2020.

USM and FIU is nowhere as good as the great Bobby Wilder's ODU, so naturally we would lose to LU. Probably by a score of 105-3.
Not sure where your logic came from.

RE: ODU vs Liberty
Liberty has a good QB and he has some good targets but they weren’t that good. I think we could have won with decent a decent QB. Steven Williams had plenty of time in the pocket and our receivers were getting open. They’d finish in the bottom half of CUSA.

If this continues to be about non member Liberty, especially about their recruitment or any other CUSA OT subject, I'll happily relocate this thread to the proper home, where the Flames fans can speak more about pillaging football powerhouses like Maine.

We one-upped them. They just got a running back from Maine, we got our head coach from there.

Oh no, they were open. If they had been ten feet tall they might have been able to catch some of the balls thrown in their general direction.

A member of CUSA and therefore relevant discussion, unlike Liberty's incoming transfers.

You guys haven't had even a decent QB since Heinicke.
P.S. I was glad to see the Panthers keep him around; mostly the Turner fam's doing i'm sure.

David Washington was pretty good. BW just made the massive mistake of trying to keeping him at WR and starting Bentley.

Yep, Norv Turner likes him. Thought he did well in the preseason to earn his #2 spot. Hopefully he never plays because I don't root for injuries, but hope he can lead the team well if he does!

I confess, I haven’t drilled down on ODU’s roster this year because you guys aren’t on LA Tech’s schedule, and frankly nobody has ODU picked to finish in the top half of CUSA. But I know ODU fans were real excited last year about a freshman QB (Williams?) who held a lot of promise. What happened to him.
