I don't know if I'd call it "hype" when it comes to things that normally kill scores of people and destroy millions.
But let's hope and pray we were better safe than sorry this time.
My 9 year old got the entire week off of school and we are expecting 2 inches of rain and 30 mph wind gusts. Monday through yesterday, the weather was beautiful.
I'd say that was overhyped and maybe they should have waited until there was a better handle of where this thing was going with a narrower cone, no?

While some may be "disappointed" at the result, I'm glad for many that the storm wasn't worse. Any of these is bad enough for those directly in the path. Some lives were lost, so no good outcome there.
Thing that irritates me is that gov'ment will "help' many rebuild the same/similar in areas/beaches they should not. Why do taxpayers, especially poorer and middle class ones, have to subsidize these wealthy idiots (as the property they buy and build on is not cheap in the first place) instead of these idiots losing when storms wash them away and NOT rebuilding if they cannot afford it. There's a reason many insurance cos won't cover some of these places. I feel it is totally wrong for the gov'ment to step in where private cos will not. Only scenario that seems remotely fair is if gov'ment says..something like..we'll give you a little help on condition you must never build there again. There seem to be just too many poor.middle class people struggling without subsidizing this kind of stupidity just so they can live on a beach with a view, or near a volcano or flood plain. If you build it and it gets laway you should lose it, not cry to gub'ment for subsidies.

We had 8 confirmed touch downs yesterday, kids stuck in school til 10 at night. Major roads, as in highways, closed for hours with trees down all over.
One death, extensive house, building, tree damage, was near pitch black out by this time yesterday. One touch down was in the neighborhood right next door, about a 5-10 minute walk from where we are.

Damn...hope you get through it! We actually had a small tornado confirmed a couple weeks ago a few streets over from my house. Many large trees were uprooted and a few fell on some houses causing some extensive damage. Nobody died thankfully. Scary stuff. Thankfully we were in the UP at the time!

My soayer just moved to Midlothian a few weeks ago and she was sending me videos of tornados in the area. Wild night for you guys.
