Shouldn't the names really be the "conferences that ESPN wants to succeed five" and "conferences that ESPN would rather just go away five"?

Media talking heads after the Big East imploded and was kicked to the curb, with an assist from autonomous conference bigwigs, looking to push an agenda. It was all agenda driven. (Big East is dead, look there are now only 5 big conferences).

Look back to the original CFP public documentation.

Talk of the "New Year's Six Bowls" which make up the CFP started with discussion of the conferences contracted to the Rose, Sugar, and Orange.
Then mentioned that one at-large spot would go to "the highest ranked champion from the group of five conferences not contracted to NY6 bowls."
Media ran with that indefinite term as "the Group of Five" and "G5."
Then and only then did they start referring to the "Power Five" and "P5" in apposition to their already-coined "G5" term.

Yes, I remember this. The media ran with it, and of course autonomous conferences happily went along with it (for their own purposes).

I wish the Big12 would just take UCF/USF. I doubt they will because they are already getting paid a **** ton. They already have a championship game without 12 teams. They constantly want to avoid expanding.

Screw them, let them become the new Big East and it’s going to implode on themselves.

It's really about ESPN's desire to see P5 expansion. If they offered a P5 conference the matching funds to bring in UCF/USF, they would do it. So....yeah....

What are you laughing about? Have you ever been to DFS? Before the meltdown of the preceding two years we were every bit of that and will absolutely be after the renovation. It is a loud, loud, loud stadium when its rocking.

You realize he's a CUSA team fan, the irrelevance causes them much bitterness. It's understandable. Forgive him.

I could see that. Right now, I would think ECU football to be on Vandy’s level, but not for long.

I honestly don’t think anybody is going anywhere for a good while. As programs we’re all either right where we’re supposed to be or fighting to get there.

I don’t think the P6 narrative is actually there to have us considered for inclusion for the P5. I think it’s to put us in a better position when tv contracts come around.

Big 12 contract is until 2025. ESPN recently paid the big 12 not to expand. So yeah, nothing is happening for a while. It will be interesting if Oklahoma gets the itch to switch conferences soon.

Yeah I know. I also know we need to get back to where we were attendance wise. It’s sad.

I suppose if you mean performance wise, but our stadium is considerably larger than Vanderbilt's.

Our stadium will be larger than UNC's and nearly the same size as NC State's when we open next year.

Remember BCS and “non-BCS”? Same thing just fast fwd a few years. Totally made up terms based on tv contracts and another way to keep the other schools out of the major bowls and the major money. Total BS and I don’t know why it has not been challenged legally as anti-trust

Yes, I meant performance-wise. Remembering that UNC's new stadium capacity is roughly the same as my second favorite team Oregon, your stadium will be bigger than Oregon's too. That's pretty big. I wish I had something to compare to NC State's stadium though.--edit--okay, found something roughly equivalent: Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium @ Scott Field. Seating capacity is 61,000, which is only a thousand more than NC State's stadium. Not bad at all!!!
