Houston and Georgia Southern going unranked is stupid.

I'm not sure, the Massey computers have Houston #33 and Georgia Southern #42. Then again, UVA is ranked and they are Massey #34.

Only top 6 control their own destiny (and UK theoretically) OU and WSU need a ton of help. No chance barring craziness.

It looks as though WSU and OU will remain well ahead of UCF as long as they hold serve.

The question is does Ohio State control their own destiny? I think they are out given these rankings barring blow out wins last two weeks.

I'd say #9 Kentucky controls its destiny. If they win out they are SEC champs and will take a spot in the playoffs. They would have to beat Georgia for sure and either Alabama or LSU to do that.

Utah State was left out also, definitely tilted to P5.

I'm proud of Kentucky. It's nice to have them in the talk. But, I don't think they will be in the discussion this time next week.

RE: College Football Playoff Rankings (October 30th)
No complaints really with the top 17. Maybe would have had WSU behind WVU at 13 but I guess you can't do that because it would pretty much eliminate the PAC right away. Got to say though after that it gets pretty shifty. The four ACC teams at the end are suspect and a 4-3 ISU team seems like a little bit of a stretch. Not surprised to see USU and UH left out. Standard screw job. Good for Fresno staying in though. Not sure why the computers love them so much but I definitely think that saved them.

We’ve all lived long enough to see Kentucky ranked higher than Ohio state. Damn!

Like I said in the previous thread, UCF at #12 I think is a fair position. After considering the others in the Top 10, if both UCF and Michigan can win out and win their conference championships, that's where you will see the difficult decision. That's assuming after all is said and done, we end up with these rankings prior to CCG week:

(1) Alabama
(2) Clemson
(3) Notre Dame
(4) LSU
(5) Michigan
(6) UCF

Oh i agree, I don't give them more than a 1 in 10 chance to beat Georgia. But as of now, I do think they control their destiny.

There are at least 3 guaranteed losses remaining among that top 10. I predict there will be at least 3 more losses in addition to those.

Remember the CFP influence you claim doesnt exist? This is an excellent test case. Without any influence from the CFP committee, the AP and Coaches polls both independently rank Houston 17th. The CFP has them unranked. Hopefully Houston wins this week (so we can eliminate a loss as a "cause"). It will be interesting to watch the UH tumble in the AP/Coaches polls next week after a win. You know its coming and it will be a great measuring stick of how much (and how quickly) the Committee influence bias affects the human polls.

UCF top 12.
Fresno, Cyclones top 25.

This is a different Kentucky than before because they have tapped into SW Ohio recruiting grounds in a way they never had the nerve to do before. Thus they've found a way to overcome their traditional limitation of in recruiting.

RE: College Football Playoff Rankings (October 30th)
In the past, the committee's MO has been to rank certain teams high in the early reveals knowing that upcoming conference games will sort it out for them. I think LSU is a good example. if they lose this week to Alabama, the committee's narrative about their body of work could change - including how much credit they get for early season wins that don't look as good today as they did when they first happened.

Later, after Georgia moves up to take LSU's place we have a good chance to have another pre-playoff elimination game in the SEC CCG. Especially since IMO the committee would rather not have two teams from the same conference now that they have established as a matter of principle that they are willing to do it.

I think their ultimate hope is to be able to select four from Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Michigan. They would be immune from criticism no matter which they pick if those teams were to win out from here. And the Mouse would be happy as a clam.

As a UC fan, this terrifies me.

When UC has been good, it's because we've gotten the best of the 3 and 4-star local recruits. We always expect that the Ohio States and Alabamas of the world will take the top 3-5 local players, but we need to be get the best of the rest of them. The last thing we need is a local peer program becoming great and taking the best high school players from the city.

For that matter, the other schools that should really be terrified are Purdue, Wisconsin, and Michigan State. They mine Cincinnati heavily. I looked it up a few years ago, and 1-in-8 recruits that are 3-star and above within the Big 10 footprint come from the Cincinnati metro.
