RE: College Baseball Polls (March 11)
Added in USA Today & Collegiate Baseball polls. ECU finally cracked CB's top 30 which is hard to do for us for some reason. Somehow, they have NCSU #2 overall even though they've had one of the weakest schedules in the country thus far.

ECU got off to a shaky start this year but I think a top 15 ranking is warranted after last weeks results in conjunction with program trajectory in general. Just like other AAC fans feel about ECU basketball (& even football lately although we've still been good for an OOC upset each year), I really wish the rest of the league could up their collective game a bit. The SEC has 11 teams ranked and as much as it may trail football and basketball, baseball is still by far the 3rd most important sport and is growing in significance with increasing tv exposure.
I've seen other teams be mediocre OOC then miraculously up their game in AAC play. UH comes to mind. One of the Florida schools usually gets hot. Tulane had a tough weekend but could still bounce back. WSU has a lot of history so who knows. It seems like UCONN is always solid. We just need a better showing OOC.
SOS to date:
5. UCONN
12. USF
17. Wichita
27. UCF
56. Houston
63. Tulane
140. ECU
167. Memphis
216. Cincinnati
Admittedly, ECU hasn't had the toughest schedule thus far and we did drop a couple we shouldn't have. That said, splitting our trip to the Magnolia State this past week helps and we've done enough to keep the respect of the national media. UCONN has done a pretty good job navigating a tough road/neutral tilt (the opening series win against UL is particularly impressive). ECU has a couple against #24 Duke coming up and a 3-game tilt @ Maryland (9-5) this weekend. We also have a 3-game series against #2 UCLA and a road trip to #15 UNC which will increase our SOS quite a bit.

Plenty of meat left on the bone to boost ECU's SOS and RPI, including some of our conference series. I'm not generally big on rankings, especially early in the season, but working back up to a top 15 will go a long way toward hosting a regional.
There is definitely a drop-off in the American this year. Last year we finished #4 in RPI. We are currently at #7.

Home series vs Radford, Monmouth, and Marist. I can reliably tell you that's a weak SOS so far.

I disagree completely. I think we're way overrated, and are only sticking to where we are in the polls because a) The guys that put us there originally don't want to admit that they are wrong, and b) it helps the Mississippis (particularly Ole Miss).
We will probably lose at Duke, will drop at least 1 (probably 2 at Maryland). If that, or losing a series to one of the Floridas doesn't drop us out of the Top 25, the results of the second week of April (@UNCW, @UCLA, @UCLA) will.
Just my guess. I don't think we have the personnel to play more than one game against a quality opponent per week.

It's one game. ECU had a 16-game winning streak against Duke coming into this one which is incredible. You can't win them all.

Yep. Midweek game against a ranked opponent. Playing with house money.
