Conference balance-Big East
Big East sure was balanced this year.
Villanova 13-5
Marquette 12-6
4 at 9-9
1 at 8-10
3 at 7-11
Two teams at .500 overall. Everyone else with a winning record.

RE: Conference balance-Big East
Big South was kind of interesting. 8 teams with winning conference records (9-7 or better) then 3 with losing records, 5-11, 2-14 and 1-15.

RE: Conference balance-Big East
It's great for the regular season and conference tournament.
But it's awful for trying to get teams in the tourney with good seeds. I mean right now- Marquette is a 5 projected, Nova a 6, Seton Hall a 9, and St John's a 10. Creighton was last team in(but they're losing by 10).

RE: Conference balance-Big East
It is very rare for every single team in a conference to finish the regular season over .500 (which is what the Big East did this year). It very much cannibalized itself this season. There was no true bottom.

Or there were no truly good teams and parity=mediocrity. If the NCAA teams can do damage in the tourney, then the Big East will look a lot better. But if all 4-5 of them fall out quickly, it's just going to affirm that the conference just wasn't that good this year.

Ah yes the blowhard Big East fanboy response that doesn't move anything forward. Sorry but parity is not a good thing. It's called being mediocre...… Big East had it's worst year since the reformation- much worse than 5 years ago.... That's just reality.
It's AWESOME for the regular season. But for the postseason, it's not good at all....

I just asked this in another thread, but how was attendance for the Xavier-Creighton game?

RE: Conference balance-Big East
The Big East had a down year, nobody is denying that. But their place in the P6 is not in jeopardy. Same for the Pac-12.
It’s interesting how some people call parity mediocrity and some call it strength. I think it’s a combination of both.

RE: Conference balance-Big East
The Big East's lack of NCAA bids this year will be because they were 94-32 out of conference.
Worse than that: other than the 3 teams that are a lock to make the NCAAs, there aren't a whole lot of quality nonconference wins. They lost to nearly every other tourney team they played. The other 7 teams' best wins:
Butler had the best wins, beating Ole Miss and going 1-1 against Florida. But they're 7-11 in conference and lost in the first round of the BE tourney. They also lost to St Louis and Dayton, two team that will be lucky to make the NIT.
Creighton beat Clemson on a neutral court. Their next best wins were ETSU and GA State.
St. John's beat VCU in overtime. Their next best wins were Rutgers and Georgia Tech.
Georgetown's only 2 OOC wins over teams with winning records (Liberty, USF) are not going to the tourney.
Providence beat Texas and South Carolina, but they're 7-11 in conference play and have a bad home loss to 11-21 UMass.
Xavier and Depaul didn't beat a single OOC team with a winning record.
Being near .500 in conference only counts if you also have the out-of-conference wins to back it up.

But the bubble is extremly soft. NC St has the weakest OOC sched in the country. Thats hard to do on accident. They worked on that

Sellout (again) for evening games. Over 19k for afternoon games. This will be the highest attended BE Tournament since the league reorganized, all due to the immensely strong attendance for the opening games.

Yeah because 4 teams in the tourney while the league is down is not good at all
Guess this blowhard will go back to watching Fox News now

4 bids max(still think St John's isn't a guarantee given last night getting boatraced by 32 points, dropping their NET down to 72). but the bids aren't going to be very good at all. Very likely no top 4 seeds. Best case scenario, Big East gets a 5,6,8, and team going to Dayton. That's not a good year at all for a power conference.
Also folks want to just focus on the number of bids. Sorry but that's not the only criteria. It's also the seeds of those bids... Big Ten got 4 teams in last year. But it was much better than Big East this year- because those 4 bids were seeded 2,3,3,5.

RE: Conference balance-Big East
Can't the following both be true:
1. The Big East had/has had a down season, compared to previous years.
2. Stever is usually one of the first posters to draw attention to underperformance and/or diminish success that the Big East has had.

RE: Conference balance-Big East
all that I'm saying is that the parity that the Big East fans love so much ..... is great/incredible for the regular season.
But it's not so great for setting yourself up for the postseason....
Can't both of those be true?
