I think they are implying that B1G degrees in Business are as formidable as the Ivy League.

The article states the B1G has 13 schools and the Ivy has 7 schools. It falls 1 short on both. Weird.

I couldn’t tell in the article: are these undergrad alums or are they also counting graduate school? At the undergrad level, the Big Ten schools are generally strong in accounting and engineering, which are good paths to corporate management roles. As strange as it sounds, being a Fortune 500 CEO is much more egalitarian in terms of academic prestige compared to the firms that such CEOs hire: investment banks (such as Goldman Sachs), management consulting firms (such as McKinsey) and large corporate law firms. Those services firms are really where elite degrees from the Ivy League and similar institutions matter the most.

Getting an MBA at a Big Ten institution is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

All 14 Big Ten universities have business schools Only 6 Ivies have business schools. Neither Princeton nor Brown offer true undergrad business degrees.

False equivalencies are easily reached in fluff articles that get picked up by media.
