But my goodness I wish it were the last.

I genuinely think he's on the telecast just to ingratiate the host city and venue, when he's not busy distracting from the action of course. Even when he called the game in China he did everything short of calling Xi Jinping the messiah.

Poor Dave Pasch. Did he say something funny but mean about his superiors where they heard him? What did he, a perfectly capable play by play guy, do to deserve this?

ROFL ... Bill went to the bathroom and is still out as they came back from the telecast. Pasch joked saying "I'm sure some of you hope he doesn't come back."

Ice cold Pasch. Ice cold.

If I know he is doing the commentary. I won't even watch the game.

Normally, the guys that distract from the game do annoy me. With Bill Walton, however, I can't stop watching. It's kind of like a train wreck...you can't look away.

At some point in the 2nd half last night (ASU v Oregon), the commentary went like this:

Bill: "Those two players are in a rodeo, the way they are riding each other."

Pause

Bill: "You ever been in a Rodeo, Dave?"

Dave: (in an exasperated voice, desperately wanting to move on) "Yes, yes ,yes ....."

He was Peak Walton last night. A whirling dervish of non sequiturs and bad takes (get rid of auto bids so middle of the pack Oregon can get in the tournament!) with only the faintest connection to the game at hand. I find him entertaining in a perverse way but there’s a limit.

He used to work the NCAA tournament with Dick Enberg.

He was more restrained working with Enberg than he is with Pasch.

I suspect the producers are now encouraging him to be more colorful. It's like an "Odd Couple" shtick with Pasch playing the uptight guy, for those of you old enough to remember the 1970s TV series or the 1968 movie.

At any rate, are you east coast guys really that upset about something that was on your TV at 2 a.m.?
