I now have responses from every fanbase except UTSA, UTA, FAU, and FIU.

This is going to be incredibly interesting. The squabbles that will come out of this will be legendary.

EDIT: This also is an ingenious use of the ranked choice voting method. I wonder if there will be a way to determine a "most preferable conference" from this data.

Major themes in the early returns:

- The clear majority of responses are those unhappy with the present alignment, but nearly 50% of respondents thus far are JMU/ODU fans so that could be skewing things greatly
- Partial membership is more tolerated than I imagined it would be
- Appalachian State is the runaway favorite as 1st pick to form your own conference.
- Southern Miss, James Madison, and Old Dominion are the other people who are separated from the pack on the 1st pick.

Now passing 200 responses, but still 0 from FAU, FIU, UTSA, and UTA. We should be able to get responses from the first three three there just from CSN. It might require outside help to get answers from UTA fans.

Interesting preferences are emerging in the iterative picking. As I said Appalachian State was the runaway for 1st pick. They are also the runaway for the second pick. But a just as big runaway for 3rd and 4th pick is Marshall. After the 4th pick it becomes a muddle huddle.

They're good people over there. I joined in 2011 or 12 to talk smack with the Eagle fans leading up to an FCS playoff game. They have sent me a birthday greetings e-mail every year since. Unlike some sports message boards.

I know they're not fully independent but UMass would have been high on my list as full member.

I’d think the common eastern rejects would be Troy, CCU, Liberty, and USA

Western rejects: ULM, NMSU

I would think that the schools in the middle of the footprint would get more votes because of relative proximity -- ODU and Texas State fans won't vote for each other, but both are probably more enthusiastic about UAB.
