We know this answer, but it makes you wonder. How a guy like this goes completely unrecruited and unheralded?
if he were on any of those national feeder teams he would be a four-star talent no doubt.
for those that didn't watch the game, I know you're looking at this and thinking, man the Marshall fans are really over blowing this kid.
Watch the game and you'll get it.
He may very well be our Jon Elmore of football. A kid from the state of WV that played against what is perceived as inferior talent. Even if he did play in AAA, the highest classification in the state of WV. The people that do work for recruiting services that rank these kids may have seen Wells and just completely skipped him because of where he was from and just automatically put him down as a 2 star. But more than likely none of them had never even heard about or seen the kid.
The small amount of tape I found on him at George Washington HS looked good but then again it wasn't like he was surrounded by great players at GW. He was kind of a do it all one man team.
Also don't be surprised if he ever lines up at punter or quick kicks the ball. He was also GWs punter and avged 44.7 yards per punt.
Here are his rankings from Rivals, 247 and ESPN:
Rivals: 89 out of the Pro Style QBs in the class of 2019
247: 77 out of the Pro Style QBs in the class of 2019
ESPN: 32 out of the Duel Threat QBs in the class of 2019
These rankings tell me that Rivals and 247 just pulled names out of a hat after they ranked probably the top 25. They both have him as a Pro Style when he is clearly a Duel Threat. ESPN is the only service that even looked at him.
