2021 Dukes Softball
Season starts with the cream of the crop in St Pete! 02-13-banana

Hope we are not scheduled to play Tech and Liberty.

Love the consistency of this program through multiple coaches.

RE: 2021 Dukes Softball
I guess we will be announcing our baseball schedule in January.

It appears we picked up some national quality recruits, as well as some local players.

https://jmusports.com/news/2020/11/12/so...g-day.aspx

Obviously the program would not be where it is today without the local players.

We need to upgrade pitching. We are nowhere near the Ford/Good era in terms of pitching. Out bats have improved though.

Ford and Good may have been generational type pitchers though. I don't know that we will have two aces on the staff again. We still have Odicci Alexander, and we have a few other pitchers that can/will step in to the circle on game days. Last year's truncated season saw us get run ruled a few times while we were playing in Florida and that was very concerning; it wasn't that we lost, it was how we lost.

I suppose my concern revolves around capitalizing on our NCAA Tournament success and TV appearances. Remember, we got those two pitchers before that run. Ideally, we should have been able to springboard off that exposure and upgrade recruiting (for pitchers). My fear is the glass ceiling we are stuck with- the CAA. Not much we can do about that. We're to the point that OOC games, conference tourney and the NCAAs are all that matters for Softball. The regular season doesn't do much for our program.

Schedule is out. Definitely different this year. 34 total games and no ranked teams.

Definite local flavor.

Was wondering what SEC teams were doing so I pulled up Auburn. They are hosting tournaments on 3 different weeks.

RE: 2021 Dukes Softball
Tech starts off at #15. We come in at #35. 01-wingedeagle

If we rack up the wins, as we should, we can probably quickly get into the top 25 based on our recent history.

https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d...ca-coaches

Gotta start off with a win at UVA. Wonder why no games with Tech?

Key #1 Does Alexander rebound?
Key #2 Can Bermudez be a solid #2?

The hitting seems to be in place.

Pitching, as is always the case in softball, will be the key.

RE: 2021 Dukes Softball
Hoping we will have some TV options for these games. Some of the games last year left something to be desired and didn't like the JMU teams we are used to seeing. With the 2020 season cut short, we weren't able to see how the team rebounded from some pretty tough losses in the OOC. I'm hopeful that a clean slate will allow the Dukes to get back to the high level we are accustomed to seeing.

I assume still 64 teams make playoffs?

If we want to be one of the 16 hosting locations we probably can not lose more than 2 based on our soft schedule. Certainly no more than 3

I think 35 game schedule before covid cancellations.

So, about 15-20 actual games then? Whats the minimum to qualify for the ncaa's this year?

Making it thru a whole season and into the playoffs is an accomplishment this year. Of couse we'd all like to host and advance a few rounds. Harder when teams aren't traveling and conferences aren't doing as much OOC.
