^^^ I think THIS is the best answer. Both Marshall and ODU are geographic outliers in CUSA, and that's essentially what they are unhappy about. They both want to reconfigure the conference so that they are the center and someone else becomes the geographic outlier.

Just let Marshall and ODU go their own way, and CUSA becomes a much tighter 12-team conference.

We actually want to make Charlotte the geographic center of the conference. Unless Temple becomes available I doubt we go any further north and there's ocean to the east.

Not true for Marshall. We have Charlotte, MTSU, and WKU all relatively close.

We are sick of being in a Texas based conference. All the best basketball conferences and fan bases are in the East but the tournament is in Texas. Our best bowl matchups are out West etc.

We originally thought this would be a two bid league in basketball which hadn’t happened either. No reason to have 14 teams unless we are able to get multiple NCAAT bids.

La Tech is just salty cause deep down they know UAB and So Miss would choose to go East with Marshall and that leaves La Tech with just the Texas schools.

WE are not all salty. I respect both ODU and Marshall. I think that its in UAB and USM's best interest to keep the conference together as it is for now. That way they wouldn't have to choose. I also understand that what we got going on right now ain't working and is destined to fail. What is going to happen is that a portion of these schools are going to catch a break and the others are gonna be stuck. Which is which has yet to be determined.

RE: Marshall and ODU pushing for CUSA split?
From where I am sitting (as an FAU fan) it is important that we remain members of the Eastern based portion of the conference. Otherwise, no other grouping makes sense. maybe AAC but no one is breaking our door down to invite us there.

As for the name of this new conference, as long as it is not a Southern Athletic Conference (SAC), I would be ok with it.

I agree it is probably time for ODU and Marshall to move along if they are so unhappy.

That’s what is probably going to happen. 2024 If the Big 12 calls up a couple of AAC teams. Maybe only 1 AAC team. If that’s the case more than likely UAB gets the call up.

Yes, Marshall and ODU....along with UTEP, are outliers in the conference. Here's proof of it.

RE: Marshall and ODU pushing for CUSA split?
we have 20 posts from 1 tweet of 1 writer, who does make the statement that MU and ODU are pushing the most. It might behoove all of us to get a second source and recognize that 'most' is a vague conjecture. Does 'most' mean 1% more than the mean or 50%, or 2 standard deviations?

If the next tweet from someone else counts the 'pushing' differently, will UTSA and UTEP or UAB and USM be the new 'leaders' in the grumping clubhouse?

RE: Marshall and ODU pushing for CUSA split?
I honestly just see UTEP and the Florida schools as the main geographic problems of the conference. If they aren't in the conference, I think it's an acceptable size. Just slightly bigger than the Sun Belt.

I think all this complaining really just comes from the lack of football success in the conference. If we're winning, I don't think you'd hear half the complaints that we have now.

Oh man. Yep it's us, just beyond Charlotte, WKU and MT that are the outliers and not UTEP or FL schools.

Completely disagree... I believe that since 2014, 13 of the 16 C-USA championships in football and men's basketball combined can be found inside the blue circle below. Add in App State, Coastal, and GSU within that circle and there is a conference that is MUCH stronger inside the circle than outside the circle.

We actually want to make Charlotte the geographic center of the conference. Unless Temple becomes available I doubt we go any further north and there's ocean to the east.

Nope Charlotte is sticking, you guys quit last September because of your state legislature or something even though other schools from Virginia played.
