I can see why they agreed to it as part of a TV deal. It was an experiment that didn't work out. FAANG $$$ dwarfs ESPN. If it had caught on, CUSA could have helped pioneer a pretty radical switch in college athletics consumption.

20 years too soon and not Facebook. My guess is that everyone everywhere will at least have solid wi-fi in the next decade or two. Then someone will build a streaming network where all games can "also" be found, concurrently with any network games. It is coming. Even Notre Dame has gone to NBC's streaming network "Peacock." The first successful model will just mirror all televised games and add others that normally wouldn't have been, so all games are viewable. It will cost a good bit to setup but as alternative rights they will probably get games on the cheap and pass that along to all the cable cutters, which by then will be most of the people.

It's all heading back to right where it started--a cable package. It just will come through your internet connection instead of an actual cable.

I would be fine with this experiment if it was only Tier 3 type of games. Unfortunately this is Tier 1/2 type of games getting stuck on there.

This brings up the point...why aren't other platforms out-bidding them for our Tier 1/2 games?

At this point, I'd rather have our Tier 1/2 games on ESPN or CBSSN. Outside of that, every game should go back to the individual schools. I'm 100% confident that Marshall could get back on our regional sports channels at the very least.

You won't like the Sun Belt, then. ESPN+ ALL THE TIME as it stands now.

Not all AAC football is on ESPN+, it's generally ESPN+ at worst with most games on N, U, or 2.... some hit main or ABC.... I'd have to go through the composite schedule.

Not really. I'm a fan of Marshall going to the Belt, but the AAC's current deal destroys all other G5 leagues combined: AAC teams make 7 million a year now just on TV rights. That's going to plummet, but their exposure is massive. 40 linear football games on ESPN, ESPNU, and ESPN2 with several upgraded to ABC. 65 basketball games on linear TV. Several more football and basketball games are subbed to CBSSN. They don't play on Wednesdays. No other G5 league is even close.

I'm sure this will get adjusted, but, by how much?

The Belt has "undisclosed" financials, so we know nothing about production costs or per team pay out. My guess is "undisclosed" means "less than the MAC." If the Belt adds more than 17ish OTA games to its current deal and ESPN subs a game a week to CBSSN, it would be great. I don't care if any money is even added. We need exposure.

Again, I hope Marshall joins the Belt, but your TV deal is still basically awful. No offense.

Do regional sports networks exist anymore? I thought ESPN bought the Fox regionals so they could torch them to funnel content to ESPN+.

They exist. Most were purchased by Sinclair, which also owns Stadium. Tons of Stadium content was pushed to the RSNs last year.

I'm talking about ESPN owning the total media rights. AAC teams don't have their tier 3 on anything but ESPN. No regional sport net.

Same as SBC.

ESPN subs content to CBSSN for the AAC and Mac. At least for the AAC, it has to be a very low level game to end up on ESPN+, which is fine. The Belt has good games stuck on + with literally zero way out.

ESPN gives AAC games to CBSSN? Had no idea. I'd rather have them on + though for constancy and actual measure of viewership. Gill released SBC ESPN+ numbers at media day. CBSSN is not even rated by Nielson

Have to disagree there. Production value destroys ESPN+, and it’s distributed about as widely as ESPNU. Also, production costs are covered while the schools eat ESPN+ costs. This is why production value sucks on ESPN+.

I encourage you to actually watch a CBSSN game.

Yes I know. I'm just saying that if CUSA would do this, then I would be much happier with our TV package.

It pisses me off that we get stuck on FB and then have to share the revenue evenly with Charlotte and FIU.

I'm not sure. I thought we played on them last year but could be wrong I suppose.....I'd be fine with just being on our local NBC/CBS affiliate like we used to be.

CBSSN is MUCH better than ESPN+....it's actually on linear TV. No comparison here.

I get both and 100% agree, would much rather watch on CBSSN than ESPN+ but I would guess more viewers have access to + than CBSSN.

I don't know. Have no clue. I just know my grandparents can easily watch the game on CBSSN by just changing it to the correct channel on their DirecTV. They can't watch games on ESPN+ unless one of the grandkids comes over to set it up for them.
