I was just getting ready to ask for the over/under on fights in this game? On the field and in the stands.

Cute, but this would have been our 8th straight bowl game, and the only fight was in 2015 in Miami. BYU started that one, and we finished it. And nothing happened in the stands.

We did taunt the BYU players leaving the field ... Sort of a happy campers vs not so happy campers party !!! 07-coffee3

Woah there sparky, the comment was more about Hawaii and the locals. They have a fairly awful reputation for altercations.

I have heard they come sit behind you in the stands and are looking for a fight.

Not what those who were there said. The baseball field configuration had something to do with it. When the game ended, our players were understandably excited and jumping up and down. And due to how the stands were basically closer to one side, a lot of our fans were sitting in the direction of the BYU bench.

As Memphis players moved toward our fans, the BYU players thought we were coming at their bench, and got aggressive. After a few BYU guys started swinging at us, we engaged. We won that battle, too.

But our guys swore they weren't doing what you suggested. They were just trying to get to their friends and family, not start a brawl. We were the happy ones, not the angry ones, and our guys claim we weren't taunting, just trying to get to our fans.

But it certainly could look that way, even if unintentional. But back then, BYU played dirty (they reportedly cleaned up their act after Mendenhall left), and they were looking for an excuse to take out their frustration of losing on us. The video shows BYU definitely took the first shots.

That was a consistent story from a number of people I talked to who were there.

That's exactly what happened. Both fan bases were on the same side of the field along with the BYU team. It was on them.

JMO, but I suspect the state has something to do with this. They have always had strict Covid rules. I was surprised they let the game go on in the first place.

Must be brutal to be stuck in Hawaii with an open schedule and time to kill! 03-hissyfit

Except we didn't get notice of the cancellation until about 22 hours before kickoff, and then the charter left early for home. We had finished our last practice and were doing a walk-through, when we got word, according to Silverfield.

Yes, a UCF fan being a bit of a smart @ss.

I think about 99% of most college FB fans would acknowledge that a healed and rested MEMPHIS FB team would have defeated this Hawaii team fairly easily even in their back yard. That Warrior team has a few issues to address.

Hawaii basically forfeited and the bowl sponsors gave MEMPHIS the trophy so whatever.

FWIW, I was looking forward to the game. Memphis looked like the better team, but let's face it, a 6-6 team that played the #84 schedule (Sagarin) in the country can't be counted on to beat anyone. The MC has Memphis at #82 and Hawaii at #90, so not a bad matchup.

Most TIGER fans were looking forward to the game as well. Most of the players had ample time to heal up and rest since Nov. 27.

IMHO, it is clearly obvious there are issues within the Hawaii program that actually caused the cancellation. COVID is a convenient excuse. Bottom line is Hawaii forfeited/begged off/failed to play a game in their backyard.

MEMPHIS enjoyed a free trip to Hawaii - especially this senior class that earned 4 bowl invitations (some 5 as they used the extra free year), including the Cotton Bowl as AAC Champions in 2019.

The fans that attended obviously can afford to fly out to Oahu around Christmas so I'm sure they will enjoy the other sights the island offers.

It's all good. On to 2022.
