I think they beat us by two points on their court in 2010, all due respect to longwood but let’s not go crazy here

Lost 83-81, at Longwood, in 2010. We are 3-1 all time against them.

Hampton is close-by and I'm always saying that is a priority.

Stony Brook I'm kinda meh on, but overall I think getting more games in the NYC area is a good thing.

We may or may not have played them much more recently and it may or may not have gone our way. Let’s leave it at that.

It would be nice to add a Carolina school to shore up our southern flank.

Interesting since Stony Brook already has football, which means they make room for a non football school addition if they come on board. If these were full adds, we would have 11 CAA football schools and 12 schools for basketball. Add one more team with football and one without football and you are to 12 in CAA football and 14 in basketball.

Basketball

North - Hofstra, NU, Stony Brook, Monmouth, Drexel, Delaware, Towson
South - CofC, UNCW, Elon, W&M, Hampton, ?, ?.

Monmouth and Stony Brook are great adds for the North, but Hampton is a weak add for the South and does nothing to enhance basketball, baseball and soccer which are the sports we care about at UNCW. The CAA had better hit a home run with the two other additions or it's just a matter of time before CofC and UNCW hit the trail.

Was just going to post this.....this would line up with the Stony Brook/Monmouth/Hampton rumor.

Let's face it....things are about to get interesting. The CAA might be fighting for survival if both of these rumors are true.

If y'all are leaving....it will be the ultimate irony that the former America East members are fighting for survival and possibly batting America East to keep their current conference alive.

RE: CAA Expansion
I wouldn't be shocked if part of the reason for going to 14 is a potential CoC/UNCW departure.

I prefer to be in a more northern aligned conference, that's where most of our students and alumni are from, but I think you could make a justifiable argument for either.

The CAA's focus seems to be on getting solid academic schools in big markets, if these expansion rumors are true.

Fairfield and Howard are allegedly the other 2 schools that would bring the CAA to 14. I like Howard a lot, but I'll concede that's partly because I live in the DC area and those would be easy games for me to attend.

I do think we should be working closely with UR football.

Football rivalry weekend: W&M-UR, VMI-The Citadel, Elon-WCU, Chatty-ESTU, Wofford-Furman, Mercer-Samford! A solid FCS conference.

RE: CAA Expansion
I guess I don't really understand the appeal of most of the teams in the SoCon, other than some level of the grass is always greener. Outside of VMI, I don't see any of them as schools that are really good rivals for us. The (rumored) new CAA is lacking some in that department as well, but at least we have Hampton, Howard, Richmond, and Delaware.

Also, if you look at where our students are from and alumni live, it's almost all northern cities. I think if we stay in the CAA we should do more to promote those games to their local fan bases.

Per LinkedIn, here's where our alumni live:

14.7k DC
7.8k Norfolk
4.8k NYC
4.8k Richmond
1.7k Boston
1.6k Philly
1.4 San Fransisco
1.1k Raleigh
1k Atlanta
1k LA
900 Chicago
850 Denver

Those games @ Hofstra, Stony Brook, and Monmouth could be half filled with WM fans if we promote the games right in the NYC area.

RE: CAA Expansion
Just to expand a bit, our student body recruitment is also north focused. (https://www.wm.edu/admission/undergradua.../index.php)

If we stay in this new look CAA, I think we should add an employee to the athletic department whose only goal is to promote these games to local alumni and potential HS students. Maybe playing these games in big markets does nothing for us, and our alumni don't really care. If after ~3 season there aren't really any clear returns for the school, then consider looking at moving to the SoCon or something.

I think playing games where we have prospective students and alumni could be a big boon, but we have to do something to take advantage of it.

It is incredible to me (and I am biased here) our inability to find partners in the DC area for our biggest alumni group by far.

Same. Half the reason I like Howard as an addition is it will give me an easy game to attend.

At least we add another Virginia school with the addition of Hampton. Would be nice to add VMI as well. Monmouth and Stony Brook are meh. Howard makes sense if you are going to add Hampton. MEAC & Big South both on life support at this point. On the other hand, if UNCW and Charleston bail, CAA basketball goes from meh to blech.
