RE: Gerry Bohanon QB1
Losing McClain hurts. I wish he would have stayed. I was very high on McClain, and thought he was special. He had a decent true freshman season, and could have had a great USF career. So, hopefully Bohanon pans out, because we just lost a promising QB because of him.
McClain could start at a lot of schools, and I expect him to get a decent amount of offers.
I am excited about Bohanon. I just hope it was worth it.

I hate to see him go, he was exciting and has a good future, unfortunately I thought when we landed Bohanon that this was what was going to happen.

I don't think the realization of the damage that seems to be done at Seminole will hurt the program for at minimum as long as Scott is there if not longer. If the rumors that he was told he would get to compete and didn't actually get to compete are true, I promise the HS coaches will know and Jeff will have a rough go of it out there on the recruiting trail in the future.

We will find out, but hey this is not new with USF it’s something that has been happening across college football for years and has accelerated lately. Plenty of examples of a transfer beating out a returnee, it’s never an easy situation and many times the one that doesn’t get the spot takes it well.

Well the QB coach for one of the best HS programs in the state seems to be pissed off about out, so yea it probably could have been handled better.

So Timmy still has his redshirt?

Yes, and he will use it this year, as it's too late to enroll anywhere. Honestly, if I were most AAC programs, I would try to recruit him. He's very talented. I expect him to get a few lower end P5 offers. I could be wrong, but that's what I kinda expect.
He has 3 years to play.

Yes. He can redshirt and be a RS sophomore next year. He will find a place and he has talent so he will be successful. I think the big difference here and what led to the decision, is experience, leadership. Bohanon has talent and is much more ready to lead the team this year than Timmy is. Some keep saying well you could have Timmy for 3 more years, but in this day and age you can assume that. If Timmy had a huge year and a P5 came calling there isn’t any guarantees that he stays. Look at UCF and Gabriel this past year.
As a coach you have to choose the best players for this year because that’s all you can control. The years of having your QB or top player sticking for 4-5 years is over, College Football is becoming more like the NFL and easier for players to move, they are not tie to contracts, every year you are a free agent

LOL he is not 10x better. Crazy. I mean I could see the benefits of each, but hey the USF coaches thought Bohanon was the better fit and they are there every day, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt until Bohanon stinks it up. But based on his play at Baylor, I think it's pretty obvious he will at least have a decent season.

Also we have two years of Gerry Bohanon, unless he decides to try and declare for NFL draft after this year. We had Timmy for a max of 3 more.

Our coaching staff has to be feeling incredible pressure to win fast... for all the reasons we're all very familiar with... So they have to go with the best option, feelings be damned. They get paid a lot of money to make these calls, and need to start winning games NOW.
How is our O line looking this season?

Coach G has been pretty Pro-UCF in the Malzahn Era. Seminole HS to UCF pipeline pretty secure.
If Keene loses QB1 battle and decides to transfer I could see Timmy transferring in.
I still think Thomas Castellanos is going to be a beast next season.
Scout team Timmy tho, might be a thing.

You know Timmy has talent and UCF would probably welcome him in. He wouldn't be on any scout team unless it was during his redshirt year. He may not win the job, but he would compete for it easily. He's as talented as anyone on your roster from a pure talent standpoint.
It will be interesting to see where he goes.

According to his 247 offers list, McClain was offered by UCF, as well as Boston College, Kentucky, Louisville, and West Virginia coming out of High School. Who knows if these lists are accurate, but I am confident he could play at most AAC schools, depending on their current QB situation of course.

I can see him going to WVU. Timmy has a big career ahead of him. He got beat out by a more senior player that fits what we need right now. I wish him the best and hope we never have to face him. That kid is incredibly talented.

with the transfer portal being so important, pissing off high school coaches doesn't hit the same as it would in the past.
are college coaches going to have grudges against high schools when their alums use their college to get to a bigger one after you spent time developing them?

Correct is a brand new world. It’s going to be interesting how this affects the middle to lower HS recruit that will now have to compete with transfers. This something that hasn’t been addressed but if schools start taking 10+ transfers a year those are slots that will be taken from the high school ranks. It really won’t affect the 4-5 star kids and maybe even the higher 3 star ones, but it will hurt those lower 3 stars and lower that used to get scholarships to mid level programs

Yea, he’s talented. He’ll be sought after but I doubt he finds a new home before classes start.
More importantly Seminole HS is an important relationship for local recruitment.
Gabriel Davis came from there.
We have 4 guys on our roster currently from Seminole.
