I mean you guys have consistently underachieved as a program so that is pretty consistent and remaining the same.
Never fails to draw the trolls.
We’ve underachieved even though our program is only 25 years old and has a win list that no other young program has ever pulled off.
I think most trolls on this board wouldn’t dare compare their schools first 25 years of competition against USFs. Once put into perspective, it’s easier to see our optimism.
We’ll have a IPF this year. Central didn’t have an IPF within their first 25 years.
When we open our stadium, that too will have been in a shorter time from start that Central.
We aren’t behind. We are right on pace for a program that was only started in 1997. Perspective.
I don't think underachieving was ever an issue. Clearly early on usf was having success on a scale that nobody expected. That success was a double edged sword in that it brought notoriety, but also unreasonable expectations I think Judy was not an athletics person. She tolerated it, but did not like Jim's low academic player requirements. IT all unraveled from there.
You are right, most people underestimate the importance of the lower division days for UCF. Having the years of slow growth (and growing pains) built a base of fans who are grounded. It is not a matter of building facilities, it is building loyalty. OCS the key facility however
Genshaft was great for academics, she raised USF academics to a high level and her goal of reaching AAU standards was on point. But as you said she didn’t really understand the role of athletics and having an AD who basically came from a school without football to retire in Florida wasn’t the greatest show. The Academic Council that was established towards th3 end of Leavitt and Holtz years did major damage. They blocked athletes who then ended up going to P5 schools with even higher academic standards. So it was really a head scratcher and was a major reason Holtz failed at USF.
As I said things are looking brighter because we have never had people pushing Football and Athletics as a priority until now.

There was actually really good building happening in 2015-2018. It was real growth, winning, and so on until Charlie Strong yanked the chrome wheels off the Mustang and decided to call it quits while collecting a paycheck. Both 2017 and 2018 homecoming had around 38-40k fans, as people were starting to believe again. Strong came to USF for one reason and one reason only-to try and win a NY6 game so he could get back to the A5 where he thought he belonged.
Scott applied for the job at the end of the 2016 season too. I don't know if he would have been ready then but he would have recognized that he had a strong team and a year to recruit his tail off to replace the talent that was leaving-and to get the next group of players ready. With literally any committed, competent coach I feel certain USF would likely have gone bowling in 19, 20, and 21. This schedule would have then become more of a benefit than a hindrance as we would be making play for national attention.
As far as Bohannan, we'd better hope he doesn't get injured. I truly believe that with him the offense is going to be dangerous. He blew up some pretty good defenses last year and had decent games against the best teams in the Big 12.
Also-what will likely be an even bigger key than Bohannan is Bob Shoop. The man has coached two NCAA #1 defenses in the last 8 years. USF landing him is going to play havoc with opposing offenses.

Oh absolutely. Taggart had the team humming and then Charlie came in and decided to change things. I think that was one of USF’s biggest mistakes going for the name rather than going after a young coach with similar philosophy as what Taggart had established
I th8nk we will be fine with Bohanon and I think that we are happy on who we already have in staff which made it ok to take the risk of McClain leaving.

What annoys me, is the "old guard" at USF. We had conversations with Lane Kiffin and it was advanced. He had definite interest and would have taken the job if USF offered.
The old guard (aka $$$) comes in and brings up his erratic past and flamboyant lifestyle... squash the hiring. We end up with Charlie and Lane goes down to FAU and puts them on the map.
I personally feel that some old USF money has wood for UF and was just dying to win with one of "their" coaches. He was seen as safe and established... funny how nobody brought up how Strong was run out of a position for boning a major donors wife. His erratic past didnt seem to be an issue.
That same old money is who pushed hard to get rid of CJL. If that goes different and the full truth comes out, I think he stays but takes a punishment of some sort... then a certain QB comes to USF instead of Lville and the fortunes of two programs changes dramatically.
That old money has been fing things up for a long time. They were the same ones who got that last abomination of a President. At least this time they got it right.
I believe in President Law, AD Kelly and even HC Scott. Theyre building it the right way and were gonna get there.

I know everyone is predicting 1-3, but I honestly believe this team will be in an extremely close game with BYU, and winning would not be a surprise to me. I am going to predict either 6-6 or 7-5, which would have USF going 4-4 or 5-3 in conference. Pieces are there that have not been there in years (since the QF years).
As I said 4-8 to 6-6 is what I’m looking at. Better than 6-6 we had a real good season, worse than 4-8 would be a disappointment.
I think 4-8 would be decent for Scott and aid in him keeping his job.

Bohanon lead USF to a 1-6 record before the season ending injury.
Wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

injuries are always a big concern, with running qb's. hope he recovers for next year.

Does he have any eligibility left for next season? Or was this his last year?

This would qualify as a medical redshirt. So NCAA can grant him another year with a waiver.
