I would have been disappointed otherwise.

Back then they were today, Marshall. A cocky group of fans like Marshall, just not as bad.
But I like Troy "freaking" St, I remember saying that when they got the SBC invite...Troy freaking st, wow, SBC got the bottom of the barrel. Of course that was coming from a basketball point of view. But since then they have grown on me and I've become more of a football fan, its the one trip I miss making. Honestly Troy actually care more about basketball than most of their western division brothers. Just dont have the money to support both at the level basketball needs to be.
This is one home and home I was glad see Western get on the schedule. South Al. would be another one I would like to see.

Agree Guns. I remember watching them come on the field at Western when we first moved up to FBS. As the housewife in Napolean Dynamite said about the miniature schooner I said "I want that".
They were cocky as hell coming onto the field. They were bigger and faster than us. I can't even remember the score of the game but in a couple years Willie had recruited a team that resembled those early Troy freakin' State squads. Bigger and faster and cocky as hell with a rep of being 'a little chippy'. The Boyd brothers Xavious and Bar'Ee and the president Andrew Jackson with a helping of Jonathan Dowling and Jamarcus Allen. With that much swag in a locker room Juan Patillo would take a look and duck out.
So I'm with you. If we're gonna play a Sun Belt team in a home and home it might as well be who we used as a blueprint early on.
Btw, I've never minded being known as being a 'little chippy' but then again Brandon Leston was one of my favorite players. All the average fan saw out of Brandon was the stupid penalties. What I saw out of him was why we won so many games when he was here. He was the heart and soul of his defenses. He singlehandedly beat Marshall just from Twitter before we ever played them.

I'd say Troy fans have always liked WKU. There was especially always immense respect on the basketball side. And while it's obvious Troy isn't a basketball-first school, it is definitely seen as important; we've got a fantastic arena and even led the SBC in avg. attendance in men's and women's basketball last year.
We've just had the misfortune of having a legend coach who stayed too long, followed by a bad hire whom WKU fans are familiar with. Before that, we were proudly dominating the A-Sun back when it consisted of UCF, Georgia State, Belmont, Troy, ETSU, and FAU. Our women's basketball has apparently picked up the slack.

I remember that game well. I was listening on the radio and thought we were going to lose. Crowd was loud. WKU's RB Stephen Willis ran all over Troy. We were lucky to come out of there with a win.
Those early Troy squads were made up of SEC transfers and late-qualifier JUCO stars.

WKU is one of the few schools I'd want if the SBC were to expand further. Doubt the sentiment is mutual though, LOL.

WKU would like very much the SBC IMO.

I think most WKU fans would love to be back in the Fun Belt, me included. At the time in 2014 it was the right move to CUSA. Now its obvious everyone is trying to get out of CUSA and a conf. stretched from New Mexico to Miami is not going to work and more FCS calls up from Texas on the way..

RE: FIU vs WKU
I concur with others that there are likely many WKU fans who would like to return to the SBC. I'm not one of those tho, not because there aren't some quality football programs there but mostly because I don't believe a 16 team G5 Conference can succeed. In addition, basketball would be a major issue for many WKU fans if a return to the SBC was on the table. The SBC has far to go to be an attractive basketball option for WKU.
Regardless, we play Troy this Saturday, which should, at least on paper, be a good game.

+1
Agreed that 16 teams at the G5 level is splitting up the revenue pie into too many pieces and SBC bball is not attractive for WKU.

I think the new C-USA will be fine, especially for hoops.
Most of the championships across all sports are staying (WKU, MT, LaTech)

CUSA football - will be ok. Similar regular season games and bowl games
CUSA hoops - good hoops league and easier to win a 9 team (1 bid league) vs. 16 (1 bid league)
As long as we are with MT, LT, we should be ok. I still like this setup better than the MAC option for now and it still leaves room for movement if there is more movement in P5.

Agreed. I'm blown away by how far the Sun Belt has come in football. But this new CUSA basketball conference could be pretty darn good and I don't think a 16 team G5 will work either.
I want to see us give CUSA 4.0 a chance.
Looking forward to the Troy game. Hope the rain / hurricane holds off for a few hours Saturday night.

Weather looks perfect for tomorrow, just a little windy. Should be 72 and sunny at kick.
