Some leagues have been quietly professional for about 70 years. NIL just brings it out into the open. If you chose to ignore the bagman and back room deals in the past that was your business, but that didn't mean they weren't prevalent.
(Insert overused Eric Dickerson joke here)
Given that Texas A&M gave him the Trans Am, but he went to SMU, sounds like he just got gifts. Or maybe in was pre-NIL non-cash compensation. See--future NFL star driving Trans Am!!!

Yeah - I don't think Kliavkoff could seriously believe it himself. He's just engaging in the puffery that all conference commissioners do in public.
Ultimately, the TV value of Sanders at CU is going to be driven by whether he can turn CU back into the same type of consistent national contender that it was in the 1990s. No one is going to watch Sanders simply because he's the coach beyond maybe the first week or two for the curiosity factor.
You are both dead right. But doesn't Kiavkoff realize that he is compromising all future believability with hyperbole. That's what you get a reporter to do for you, or perhaps a sage coach. It's not what a commissioner does.
Sound factual presentations and earnest hopes and concerns earn trust. The position demands it.

If Deion Sanders dramatically impacts the value of your conference then I don't think you're getting a great contract.
Yeah, before I actually saw the tweet, I thought that when someone said K had said that the Deion hiring added value to the media deal that they were making a sarcastic joke, and a pretty funny one. Then it turns out he really said that.
Makes me think that the real reason, or at least a reason, the PAC hasn't signed a deal yet is that the money on the table, at least without UCLA, is paltry and they are desperately delaying to try and dredge up more.
Of course, I may be wrong about that. But it's what crossed my mind.
Alternately the conference could be on the brink of dissolving, so neither the schools nor the TV networks are trying in the least to form a deal.
