A few notes of seeming significance:

If Deion Sanders dramatically impacts the value of your conference then I don't think you're getting a great contract.

No doubt Kliavkoff will blame Yormark for all of this. "We would have had a great deal if the big 12 wasn't constantly lobbing grenades at us...why, just today they said they were adding more teams!". Kliavkoff is like the cartoon character who plugs one leak in the dam only for 2 more to show up, then he plugs those 2 and 4 more pop up...eventually you run out of fingers and toes and that dam is gonna break. It might not break today. It might not even break before 2036. But it's going to break eventually unless the B1G decides that they're never taking another Pac school.

On that Sankey quote about the CEO. I said the Knight Commission sounded like the Rutgers faculty trying to kill football. Totally out of touch and irrelevant.

The Sankey quote is the important one and what I've told the board multiple times would be coming. Pay for Play comes with collective bargaining. Contracts will replace scholarships. NIL will remain roughly a matter between players and sponsors. The SEC is going to do what it wants to do.

The Knight commission remarks are just impetus to move more quickly to where the courts and sentiment will take us. The P conferences will either get together, reach a consensus, and move forward, or a bifurcated pathway lies ahead.

We need a 64 or 72 or whatever convenient round number league for football and men's BBall. Or two independent conferences that run athletics the way they deem fit. Enough with the fluff and BS around that, because that's where we are going. Programs that cannot self fund will be left behind.

Guys like Dennis Dodd, Bruce Feldman, Greg Doyel among others are struggling to remain relevant in an ever changing world of sports media. Seldom do they ever break real news. Most of the time they serve as confirmation on what everyone else already knows. They are dinosaurs slowly going extinct.

Simply put most sports fans know where to get real local sports news and it’s not from any of these fossils.

You can't do that. This is colleges and universities, not the pro leagues. You have to think about all sports have to be pay for play and not all the schools offer the same sports which could hurt. Wrestling, tennis, gold, LAX, hockey, soccer and other sports are not being offered at all the P5 schools. That is why it will be all 10 FBS conferences and others from FCS, 1AAA and D2.

Yeah, before I actually saw the tweet, I thought that when someone said K had said that the Deion hiring added value to the media deal that they were making a sarcastic joke, and a pretty funny one. Then it turns out he really said that.

Makes me think that the real reason, or at least a reason, the PAC hasn't signed a deal yet is that the money on the table, at least without UCLA, is paltry and they are desperately delaying to try and dredge up more.

Of course, I may be wrong about that. But it's what crossed my mind.

This reminds me of "Mr. College Football" Tony Barnhart. It was always cringe-worthy when his ESPN counterparts would introduce him with that title.

At this point, I am totally good with a natural culling of the number of college sports programs (especially football) across the country. We don't need more football stadiums for crying out loud. Some of these athletic departments have less fans and support than small high schools.

And as for basketball, some of the A-10 gyms would be embarrassments for an Indiana high school, let alone some of the less prominent conferences.

Than the P5 schools have to get rid of football to ever make this to happened. Cutting sports will hurt the Title 9 of the schools.

Serious question: who is Tony Barnhart, and what is his association with college football?

For better or worse the employee model is coming and collective bargaining along with it. I think that they all knew that NIL was going to become a problem. It's creating a problem and then presenting the solution for it. There has to be contracts to slow down all of this movement.
