and we blew it, and TH had a mediocre game.

I normally watch the game replay, but not this time.

That being said, I think we still somehow qualify for the playoffs... because this is the NFL.. and it aint over till it's over.

I don't think Taylor played poorly, he only made on truly bad throw. He didn't miss to many reads, while the fumbles were brutal his O-line didn't handle the blitz well and he had zero opportunity to throw or scramble mort of the time.

That hand off to Samuel got blown up every time they ran it, and the refs blew it several times.

Other than the fumbles, I don't see much more TH could have done.

Have to score more than 12 points. We aren't scoring enough points.

The fumble was on Taylor, unfortunately. The play design with an empty set was for him to get rid of the ball on the drop and he held onto it.

Doesn't matter how the O line or Defense is playing, have a feeling this is his last start. Have to take my ODU glasses off for a second. TH has to protect the ball. He turns it over too much in really bad spots and that has killed us too many times.

His turnovers are absolutely killer. It’s ironic but he has turned into what Wentz was in Philly, average to slightly above for large stretches but absolute back breakers when it counts.

I'm having a hard time taking the glasses off. The oline isn't protecting the qb despite who's name is on the back.

RE: Taylor Heinicke
I love TH... but he was shell shocked in the 2nd half after those back-to-back turnovers.

RR made the right call to extract him from that mess the 9ers D served him all day.

Now Wince played in garbage time, but his passes were crisp with a lot of pace/speed. Maybe this all gets settled next week v the Browns. I'm a TH fan, but I was a Redskin fan before I attended ODU (remember 1991, yall?)

So let's see how this plays out

FWIW, TH had the third best QBR (84.3) and third best passer rating (114.6) for a starting QB against San Francisco all season.

And it appears that the interception was caused by the receiver stopping on the route instead of continuing. Heinicke's pass would have been on the money had he not come to an abrupt stop - which I'm sure Heinicke didn't expect him to do.

How about the first series of the game where Taylor throws a strike and Dotson drops it. That’s probably 70 yards to the house. Nobody woulda caught him. Receiver did a great job getting open and then had a stone hands moment. Taylor played his tail off. The best player in the league strip sacked him like he’s done to everyone else all year long. Oh well, Rivierra has been looking for an excuse to go back to Wentz… so I guess that’s it.

Big drop that's for sure. Seems like he had another big throw inside the ten that was called back for holding. Not sure the Int was on him, but he will get the blame.

RE: Taylor Heinicke
LOTS of factors playing against TH4. Playcalling is #1 in my mind. They run on first down every single series, mostly on 2nd down too. He was in 3rd and long pretty much all game. I think it was an average of 3rd and 8.6 before the final INT. Then throw in the dropped TD, the blindside sack leading to the fumble, the nonsense going for it on 4th down inside your own 35. Just lots of bad football. TH will get the blame, but that loss was not on him - I thought he actually played pretty well until the INT (and it's debatable whose fault that was)

When i said he was done i meant for the game, like he was coming out. Beating the 49ners on the road was always going to be a long shot. The defense failed more than the offense did. However we have to beat the browns at home, so we'll see what happens.

RE: Taylor Heinicke
Really stinks. I thought he played really good in the first half and the one drive in the 3rd quarter. but playing good is still only 14 points. His problem has been that he has only been able to manage a really good quarter or half of each game and the other half is pretty bad.

Really sucks that he will likely be benched for the last 2 games and I hope he ends up staying as the backup QB. I think he will get some offers to be the backup somewhere. He's a great story to root for who is loved by players and coaches, but his physical limitations and decision making are too much to overcome to be an NFL starting QB. The playbook is limited when the QB lacks to zip to get it to the outside of the numbers or downfield.

Hes one of the few backup QBs that can actually win you a game. Hopefully he stays but I would guess they want to get Howell more reps and possibly bring in another QB for Wentz.

RE: Taylor Heinicke
He had a good game overall yesterday against the #1 ranked defense in the NFL. Robinson unexpectedly stopped on the route on the interception. The pass was where it was supposed to be - not Taylor's fault. His QB rating was nearly 115 yesterday and would have been even higher had Dotson not dropped the pass early in the 1st quarter which likely would have ended up being a very long touchdown pass and put Taylor over 200 yards and 3 TD passes.

No question he gets an offer from another team if Washington doesn't resign him.

RE: Taylor Heinicke
None of us know for sure but you are likely making stuff up. The general principal in any level of football is to run crossers vs. man and stop vs. zone. The Niners defense were in zone and it wouldn't make any sense at all for Robinson to run fake and then run a crossing route. It takes too much time and it simply not logical.

As a Commanders fan, this is a difficult decision. There numbers are eerily similar. Both are turnover machines and both took a lot of unnecessary sacks. Heinicke can make more plays with his feet. Wentz can make more plays downfield and threaten the defense more. They switched to a more run based offense when robinson was healthy and I'm guessing they will try a more run based offense with Wentz behind center in the last 2 games. One thing Wentz is good at is play action. But both miss tons of passes that should be fairly standard completions.

Agreed about Heinicke's limitations. His story is still something to be proud of, though. Hopefully he can catch on somewhere else as a backup for a 1-2 year deal if the Commanders decline to bring him back.

Extremely proud! He's has overcome some odds just to play play a game in the NFL, must less start as many games as he has.
