Incentives are not pay. They are potential (unguaranteed) pay. I'm sure Hooten is being incentivised as well.

That tweet above is Hooten's incentives. The incentive amounts were greater for Jans' which made up the difference for his lower base salary. Jans had a higher "potential" annual salary than Hooten, much of it was paid by the boosters. Nevertheless, Jans was making over $600K annually at the time in which he took the Mississippi State job. I'm sure if Hooten is successful, he will be making more than Jans within a few years, as he renegotiates his contract for higher paying incentives and base pay.

Jans had a guaranteed annual retention bonus plus his base salary plus incentives. He made more than what Hooten will make this year. Hooten does have a higher base than Jans and others. But Hooten is not making "more than any coach since Marvin Menzies". You are wrong.
