I suspected Miami and Arizona St would get in soon. Didn't know about George Washington or USF being that close. Congrats to johnbragg and the Revolutionaries!

This certainly changes the calculus in terms of the Big Ten and Miami as well as Arizona State. I was almost positive the Big Ten would've taken Notre Dame without being AAU but now that's not even an issue.

Watch the Big Ten screw up and invite Miami (Ohio) instead of Miami (Florida).

RE: Six New Universities added to the AAU
If the B1G ever gets into Arizona, this definitely solidifies ASU above UA. UA's calling card was always AAU status to neutralize ASU's location, but that's out the window now.

Soooooooo let me ask a question, Does ASU now jump up to number 3 or 4 on the B1G expansion list? I say yes but others might feel differently

Miami, the one in Oxford, not Coral Gables, is an excellent school, too, and worthy of AAU status.

If the B1G ever goes 4-down on the west coast list, I think ASU now jumps Cal at #4. Phoenix is the #10/#11 market while Cal would be doubling up on the Bay Area.

ASU is a top 5 earner in the PAC 12. Arizona is not. So, if they are on anyone's list it has to bump them up.

I think it does move them above Utah and UA. Non zero chance it moves them above Oregon.

100% agree, I think the additions would be Washington, Oregon, Stanford (If they're willing), and ASU. Should be interesting to see what happens. 04-cheers

Yeah I'm not knocking it. It's a "Mom, can we have Miami? we have Miami at home" allusion.

Though small potatoes, Arizona State has a hockey program. At one point, there were talks about them being a possible B1G member for hockey only.

GW, USF and Notre Dame were all surprises.

Notre Dame certainly had the elite undergrad, but I thought they were still a good ways from making it with the grad rankings.

Miami, ASU and UC-R not surprises.

RE: Six New Universities added to the AAU
A lot of schools have been talking about aspiring to achieve AAU membership, but I think this represents the final stage of what has been a gradual refocusing of membership priorities and that very few schools excluded in this current iteration are likely to be included in the near or intermediate future. I think membership is likely to be very stable going forward with fewer call-ups and fewer schools dropped.

Crap, now I need to reevaluate all those "The B1G wouldn't want Miami b/c Academics" posts that I've recently made...

This might explain ASU's reluctance to move to the big 12. They have their sights set on the P2 now. And not just the B1G. We've seen the SEC take a whole bunch of AAU schools recently, and ASU might be an intriguing #21-24 range school for us, too. Miami? They just just got a big boost for both SEC or B1G membership.

RE: Six New Universities added to the AAU
I think people undervalue the possibility of the ACC raiding the PAC. Even if revenue neutral, the association with 8 additional AAU members would have value to the university presidents.

Yep, I've always loved ASU as an addition to the BIG. Better get them before the SEC pounces.

Baseball and Softball would mesh nicely with USCLA and the BIG really would love the additional hockey team.
