Ironic as they control most of the college athletics interest in the state. Nobody cares about UVA accept alum. But UVA seems to be more desired in realignment.

RE: Who does the ACC take from the AAC?
If the ACC is gutted, I think that they will lose 6-8 teams. If they have 8 teams left they might survive. If they get down to 6 I’m not so sure.
Let’s say the following happens:
-FSU and Miami to the B10 after Oregon, Washington, Cal and Stanford join. The B10 stops at 22.
-UNC, Duke, UVA and Clemson to the SEC.
-Louisville and Pittsburgh to the B12.
-Syracuse goes indy and along with Notre Dame, heads back to the Big East for Olympics. UConn remains indy in football and stays in the Big East. A scheduling agreement is worked out between those three.
VPI, NCSU, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Boston College remain. They take the exit fees and rebuild, rebranding at a later date. I think they add at least 11 schools from the American and possibly the Sunbelt (yes, they would go to 16).
Those 11 would be, in order:
Memphis
USF
Tulane
SMU
ECU
UTSA
Temple
UNT
Rice
Two of FAU, JMU, OFU, App, Marshall or Southern Miss
They only go to 20 if they can further add Colorado State, Air Force, Navy and Army.
In the future, it’s very likely in my opinion that actual viewers -not markets- will be very important in terms of media dollars. I also suspect that the era of seeing big increases in terms of % to media contracts upon renegotiation is coming to an end. As such, there will be more emphasis placed on regionalization to cut down on costs. This can be done in a “national” conference consisting of “regional clusters”, if that makes any sense (the current model in the Sunbelt might be ahead of it’s time).

UVA has top tier basketball and baseball to offer, VT has neither. UVA's football would be comparable to the top end of the bottom half of the B10 currently, nothing to go crazy over but not Rutgers either. From the academics side, it's not even a contest. Tech has always been the safety school for those with aspirations of going to UVA.

VT doesn’t fit either the B1G profile or SEC profile. UVA would fit in with the B1G.
