And, while you are in WalMart, Horny, you might want to check out their knee pads. Just trying to help, buddy.

The world would be a better place if we all knew that at any moment we might be required to stand in front of the person we were directing internet posts at and read our posts to them aloud, to their face.

The world would be a better place without critics who slam others while not knowing what the hell they are talking about.

We board members here gig one another severely and often. It is mostly in good sport and for humor, but even when it's not, we are all still brothers (a few sisters too, I believe) and there is not a member on this board who I wouldn't happily enjoy a drink with at a tailgate or elsewhere.

Horny is a decent guy, but totes the admin's water even when it's a very unpopular thing to do. Gotta' respect him for standing up for what he believes, but he does need to check out WalMart's knee pads. My tile guys swear by them! 03-nerner

Everyone has to have their own personal standards for how they argue and represent the arguments of others. I appreciate you clarifying yours.

he's making blanket statements like "the future of the entire athletic department is in peril", 'we were only in it for the Fiesta Bowl cash', JMU's motto of "Being the change" is 'false advertising'. Some of his writing on the topic is patently false, and at very least is poor journalism. I've been a huge Shane supporter! Now I think he ought to stick to Basketball and get back to the facts. He SHOULD ask tough questions, but I think he's getting cranky about not getting responses from people and therefore he's reporting on public opinion as he goes.

Shane Mettlen’s Twitter account is not for reporting news. Commentaries are not for reporting news. I haven’t seen a news piece in the DNR in which he’s been anything less than factual.

Gotta quibble with this one. His story that caused the fuss (from a day or two before thanksgiving) was mostly opinion. I'm ok with it, but it should have been marked as opinion or commentary. It's probably hard for a beat writer at a small paper to keep that boundary clear, but there were definitely opinions in it.
