Not a fan? I figured Navy fans would be all about this.

Truth be told, it's highly unlikely to ever affect Navy. These two programs will most likely never be scheduled to play in conference.

I let my earlier reply be post #20, so it might be missed by people on 20 per page.

The only change is that now both as members of AAC have access to playoffs should they win conference and be highest ranked nonP champion. Before Navy had that advantage, Army did not.

Awesome news!!!

So what/how does Army handle the game’s already scheduled past this season? Do they drop every game and pay every school a buyout fee? Do they get out of all games without having to pay from a clause?

How would this affect the Commander-in-Chief Trophy standings?

AFA had better join the AAC to make sure Army and Navy don't gain an unfair advantage for the trophy.

Why would it affect anything? They won't play each other in the regular season.

If both teams make the conference championship game, that would be played the first week of December and then they would play the ARMY/NAVY game the next week. That seems like a worry about it when it happens type of problem.

Happy to see Army and Navy in a conference together. Only thing that will upset me is when Army cancels our series for 2025 and 2026. Navy already backed out of coming to Huntington and I expect Army to do the same.

Hard for me to believe they would accept less than Navy.
I'm sure they won't be. My guess is they'll be getting the exact payout Navy gets. They are basically a substitution for SMU, who was getting the full OG share. So my guess is ESPN leaves the contract completely untouched, they get the same FB only share Navy does, and that non-FB share just gets divided among everyone else unless we add a non-FB member.
Agreed that Army wouldn’t/couldn’t and shouldn’t accept less $$$ than Navy. Contractually, I suspect Army is being treated as a substitute for SMU as b0ndsj0ns said and the money will remain the same.

Best news for this conference since FAU, the basketball flagship school, made the NCAA Final Four.

Welcome Army!

Excited to have another school in the conference that's less than 100 miles from me... Casting a bit of a broader view by including Navy, hopefully it means a Rice game in the northeast most years.

That said, and I know this is an unpopular opinion, I don't like how Army and Navy will be played as a non-conference game. Not sure what the harm would be in playing it the weekend before Thanksgiving, for example. That's always a pretty empty week in terms of big games.

Army will get SMU's football share. VCU will get SMU's olympic sports share.

Almost every other college football tradition has been or will be destroyed. Let Army and Navy keep theirs intact. Their annual game might not technically be a conference game but it still will be great for the AAC.

Best possible add. Football component shored up with a solid team on the field and a huge national brand. Olympic sports don't take an unnecessary hit to achieve it either. Lets add a solid Olympic sports school then try to reel in AFA/CSU again.

i don't understand propping up Wichita State and degrading the new adds. Wichita State is a team that could kill your NET ranking if you lose to them. Two good seasons out of six in the AAC. Sure, they can eventually turn it around and scale up, but so can the new programs.

The only thing I could possibly see is that maybe because of an overall drop in non-FB inventory ESPN decides to basically "cut" the deal roughly the % we pay Wichita as a non-FB member. I think that's worst case, and worst case that costs none of us any money. I suspect ESPN doesn't even bother doing that and leaves the deal exactly as is, and they don't care or have any input into how we split up the money they pay us.

Navy's change came when Notre Dame moved our game to week zero and Dublin.

We wanted the Labor Day weekend off after international travel. I don't know how much discussion there was about flexing from week 1 to week 2 (when we ended up adding FCS opponent) but you were already full up in those September ooc opportunities.

We suck now .. but WSU brings more "brand power" to the bball side than any of the newcomers.

It's more about in terms of perception. The CUSA6 were added after us being raided, we had to add teams. Wichita was the first and only "proactive" addition the AAC made, the only one that wasn't done because we needed to in any way but was done to actively enhance and improve the league. Hasn't exactly worked out as the slam dunk make hoops better that everyone hoped, but still that's why. Adding Army in this case is the first time since then that the AAC actually got their top choice. For years they had missed out on Army, couldn't get BYU, couldn't get Boise/SDSU, and then got left at the alter by AFA/CSU. This is actually landing the white whale the AAC has been trying to get for years.

If they can get them in for 2024, the simplest thing is to slot them into SMU's conference games. If they do that then they'll both be on Charlotte's schedule and a few others.

If Army inherits SMU's 2014 Conference schedule, both Army and Navy would visit Denton in 2024 (along with Tulsa and Tulane). Nice Conference home schedule for the 'Green

The Army-Navy "tradition" of having its own weekend started in 2009. It hasn't always been that way.

Rice has Army scheduled the next three years as a OOC game.

Oh, well, that's why we pay the AD the big bucks.
