It took Bama one day to replace Saban. It took Wood 6 weeks and then some to replace Blaine. The biggest problem in those days, it was in the heat of spring recruiting. Wood has been at ODU since 2010. They need new blood, like Mark Benson, are someone not afraid to make needed changes.

I think this is silly criticism. Blaine was fired the first week of February. You ain’t hiring a coach worth his salt until mid-March, since he has his own team to coach until eliminated.

If BLaine was fired in February, that would have given Wood plenty of time for a new coach. Maybe you don’t remember, but in those days we did have a portal. Many good high players were left not being recruited, for that waste of valuable time. I’m not sure if Jones got any leftovers but if he did it was out of desperation, due to when he was hired.

I try to listen to the podcast as much as I can, the guys do a really good job with it. Glad we have fans like them that go out of their way to make sure we get quality content about our favorite team

I say the school should announce the change now and get a big head start on hiring the next coach.
Of course any good AD would have a shortlist of candidates already, but ODU has to get the next hire right.

I don't see them announcing anything before the end of the season unless Jones decides to retire.

If Jones’s health is approved by his doctors, he will be back next year. Wood extended him till another year to 24-25. I wonder if Wood has a contract expiration date. Again the great sunbelt fans, they had 1,642 fans at the game Thursday night, in Atlanta

The fact the JJ’s contract runs another year has zero impact on whether or not he’ll be back. If the admin wants to fire him, they’ll buyout the remaining year. A one year buyout is the minimum cost of doing business in college basketball.

A mistake by Wood, it still a buyout ODU really can’t afford and now besides the ODAF, they are trying to raise money for paying player to either stay or find a excellent player on the portal. Wood now has extended RR in football. Wood’s biggest mistake is he extends to early or just don’t think there is a problem.

What? My point is you can’t hire a coach in February, every coach you want to hire has a job. You can talk with agents (and we did), but the coaches themselves are not interviewing while trying to get ready for postseason play.

Furthermore, Jones had plenty of success the first couple of years. Not sure why we’re now discussing who or who he didn’t land.

You have to extend coaches. If you have a coach in his last year of a contract, it’s impossible to recruit.

We have never been paid by ODU. We’ve actually spent quite a bit producing the show for the last 2 seasons, put it out for free to listeners and don’t sell ads on the show. We did this because we thought it was a good way for fans to actually hear some deeper discussion on the team and have some of their questions answered by Coach Jones and to JJs credit, he hasn’t refused to answer many of those questions.

They should at least offset some expenses. You really are doing things they pay, and used to pay for,regularly. Harry, Ted, 94.1 radio are alll getting paid :)

Yes, they are doing a good job of supporting ODU & that is their job. My problem is 1. I don’t listen to it and 2. The promotion of 12 years of mediocre, doesn’t fit me. I was mind conscious ODU fan when they were nationally known and went to the NCAA several times. I do respect your loyalty, hopefully the program will improve.
