That's the biggest issue with this law. It didn't impact anyone but ODU, NSU and now JMU. They couched it as a law to slow rising tuition but it failed from the offset and they knew it. If this was truly about slowing down the rising costs for a college education, every school in the state would be impacted. Instead, 2 of the cheapest schools for tuition by a decent margin got limited.

Perfect for politicians. They can pat themselves on the back and say they did something without doing anything at all except to ODU and NSU (at the time). Its just theatre. Cox probably figured JMU was FCS for life so it wouldnt matter. If the politicians really wanted to reduce the cost of higher ed, they'd make community colleges more affordable and pass laws on the amount of profit a school can make off room and board. "Fees" suck, but the dorms and meal plans are where schools really make a killing. And speaking of "fees", I still think we are missing out on a lot of funding by not charging athletics fees to online students.

IIRC, during Heinickes heydays, There were reports of increased enrollment applications. Winning brings donations, but it also brings student population increases, added revenue for the school and increased revenue for athletics from student fees.

Students and alumni both want to be associated with WINNING. It brings all those feel good endorphins that lead to opening the wallet.

Absolutely. And I haven't seen the data myself, but Ive heard from people who's kids are touring schools that JMU and App St both have seen huge increases in applications over the last 2 years making it more difficult to get into them, thus raising rankings, thus increasing desirability. Athletic success can snowball in a good way, and actually help not only fundraising, but academic perception (as we've seen with GMU and VCU as well).

When Heinicke was here, I bought one of his jerseys from the team store and would wear it even when I was back home on breaks. One time I was getting lunch and a kid came up to me and told me loved my jersey and Heinicke, and he was so excited to watch him in person in the fall as he was goign to be a freshman. I don't think we've had a player like that since then
Henderson might be the closest to it but Defensive players aren't as flashy and don't get as much love from the fans. I know we give Henderson a lot of praise here but linebacker doesn't have the same star power as a QB.

Right. Henicke was on ESPN a decent amount, and ODU was lighting it up in those days. Henderson is a first ballot ODU hall of famer but he doesnt have the star power that Heinicke did. Would be cool to see that again
