That’s a football only rule.
While I think the 4 game rule is universal throughout college football, I believe basketball does allow some games to be played to be eligible to redshirt. I think if varies by conference. I read somewhere where some conferences have a 4 game limit while others have up to 30% of games.

If you play in any, you burn the redshirt unless you get injured and have a medical redshirt. Anthony Grant was talking about how the NCAA should adjust the rule to be more like football in December.

Didn't we get screwed by someone playing in an closed scrimmage and it affected his eligibility for the rest of the season? Can't remember which player it was.

Donte Hill. If I remember correctly, he played in a closed scrimmage from Clemson before transferring to us, and it cost him an entire season of eligibility.

Good call! All I could remember was it had something to do with Clemson.

Yamari was brought on with the hope that he could redshirt and develop. Unless he is upset with what happened with his brother (ie hes delusional), then I see no reason to let him go. The kid could play here in time if he stays.

Of course, I expect him to be gone. A long with a couple others, which is totally fine.

Yeah, it's anyone's guess who returns next season at this point. The entire roster could potentially flip with how the portal works.

That would be ok with me. It is probably what is needed to turn this around quickly.

Same. I'd be fine keeping Imo, Pounds, Ceaser, Jenkins and Baker. Maybe Blakeny. But I wouldnt be surprised to see literally everyone who has an option to leave, leave. And all of those guys can play somewhere. We may have only 2 or 3 guys from this squad next season. Getting a coach who can win, and win quickly is the most important thing.

So how important would it be to get a coach who could drag a few players from his current school with him to help fill the massive void?

Turnarounds can happen quicky in basketball, but it depends on how you try to build. With the covid years burning off, its a bit of a different animal that its been the last couple years.

Do you go the St Johns method and try to build an instant team that is competitive (but maybe with a lower upside) or do you go the Georgetown method and try to build with guys that will hopefully be in the system for a couple years and may have more upside.

Who would have to sit if they left? That might be key in who leaves and who stays. I don’t know what the current transfer rules are.

I dont think the slow build is a realistic option for a mid-major any more unless you have millions in NIL money to throw around (like FAU was rumored to do). Once guys develop and can contribute, they just leave. And with the Monarch fan base so beat down after years of disappointment, I think you have to go with option 1 and try to build an instant team.

Honestly, Devin might be the only one who would have to sit.

RJ, Chaunce, Imo are likely all eligible for grad transfers.

Leeroy, Bryce, Sam, Yamari, and Dani all should have their free 1 time transfer.

The other guys are walkons and definitely eligible to transfer, if they want.

Devin used his one time transfer coming from Buffalo and I doubt he’s graduated yet or on pace to this year. But I could be wrong.

But odds are he will get a waiver, if even needed. This system changes monthly though.

By now with number of games ODU has played, if Yamari didn’t play in the slug feast against Marshall @ home, I would feel my his playing days at ODU would be very limited for 4 years.

He is redshirting. What the heck are you talking about?

Ignoring that, not play your first year does not mean you cant play year 3 and 4.

Again, he was a package deal. He should have at least got in a couple of minutes against Marshall. I believe non- scholarship players did play. In VA verbal talks with the Ducks, I sure his name was mentioned.03-hissyfit

If his whole plan is to redshirt, why would he burn a whole year for mop-up duty in the Marshall game? Its not like football where you can play a third of the season and it doesn't count.
