Almost forgot we have a game tomorrow. Too bad, I remembered.

But, thankfully, Marshall sucks. We've already beaten them once, by a lot. We should win.

VA had like 30 pts the 1st game. Wish I had the coach's confidence.

RE: ODU @ Marshall - Feb. 1 - 7 pm ESPN+
Thursday 7:00 in Huntington: Marshall (11-11, 6-3 SB). ESPN+

Results since game 1: JMU (52-67); Ga State (77-68); S Mississippi (83-67).

Last game: S Miss tied the game @19, then then Herd got hot to push a lead to 36-23 and led 41-33 @HT. Marshall expanded the lead in the second half to 70-45 and coasted to an 83-67 victory. Marshall shot 56.4% FG (8-18 3s) and scored 24 pts off 16 forced TOs. Nate Martin led the Herd with 24 pts (9-11 FG, 6-11 FT) + 10 RBs, Kamdyn Curfman had 21 (7-17 FG, 4-11 3s, 3-5 FT), Kevon Voyles had 13 (5-12 FG, 1-2 3s, 2-2 FT) and Jacob Conner added 12 (5-6 FG, 2-2 3s, 0-1 FT).

SB stats: 73.8 pts (vs 72.3); .422 FG (.319 3s); .716 FT; +1.4 RB; A/TO= 1.4

Starters (S Mississippi) SB stats (except 3s)
F Obinna Anochili-Killen (6-8 220 Sr). 33.9 min; .453 FG (21-57 3s); .721 FT; 5.4 RB; 1.2 blocks; 17.3 pts
F Nate Martin (6-8 235 Jr). 31.9 min.; .615 FG; .600 FT; 9.6 RB; 1.4 steals; 3.2 assists; 1 block;11.6 pts
F/G Jacob Connor (6-10 210 So). 29.7 min.; .422 FG (25-70 3s); 6.9 RB; 2 steals; 3.8 assists; 5.9 pts
G Kevon Voyles (6-3 200 Sr). 25.3 min.; .372 FG (28-99 3s); .857 FT; 3.4 RB; 1.4 steals; 10.4 pts
G Kamdyn Curfman (6-1 185 Sr). 36.2 min.; .360 FG (66-197 3s); .897 FT; 1.4 RB; 16.1 pts

Bench
F Wyatt Fricks (6-10 200 So). 17.0 min.; .390 FG (7-35 3s); .714 FT; 3 RB; 5.6 pts
G Nutter Ryan (6-4 190 Fr). 9.9 min.; .300 FG (1-10 3s); .750 FT; 1.4 RB; 1.4 pts

Play better at home (7-4, 4-1 SB). Nate Martin coming off career high game vs S Miss. Opportunistic on defense and will RB and block shots inside. Unselfish and balanced on offense (lead SB in assists). Aside from assists, Marshall isn’t top 4 or bottom 4 in any offensive or defensive category in Sun Belt play.

Individually, Anochili-Killen is #3 pts/g, #7 FG% and #9 blocks. Nate Martin is #1 ORB, #5 RB and #10 blocks. Jacob Connor is #4 steals and #6 assists. Kamdyn Curfman is #2 3s made/g and #4 3%. (Sun Belt games only).

Does VA's little brother have a shot at playing? Is he still on the team? (No reason for him not to be, just curious)

VA is no longer on the roster, his brother Yamari still listed. He hasn't step on the court has he.

The plan has been to redshirt him. Not sure if that plan remains now or not.

No...I would resend his scholarship at the end of the season since they were clearly a package deal.

It’s away & VA’s 27 points, won’t be there. Still hope they could pull out for win for KD. These next 3 games will be tough. I think next year’s decision will be up to JJ. I feel if his cancer is cleared, he will be back. Wood will not fire him.

He'll probably follow his brother. But why pull his scholarship, he didn't do anything wrong. We'll probably lose a bunch of players, wait and see what shakes out.

Sorter like the Parker brothers (if you remember that far back). As crazy as this NIL is, maybe the ducks could take him, just on scholarship. If VA left his twin brother, what does that say about brotherly love, if he stays at ODU.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think each scholarship start on a one year basis, with the school extending it to there liking. In must cases, if the play or redshirt the could continue.

I said at the end of the season...not now. With NIL and the Portal there are no commitments any more. Players are free to leave at anytime so programs should be free to part ways with players at anytime. We took him on because of an understanding and a commitment to his brother. That links them. VA gone ...at the end of the season it is fair to release him. We lived up to our commitment.

Does the same redshirt rule apply to basketball? ie, could he play in up to 4 games? or that's just football?

That’s a football only rule.

While I think the 4 game rule is universal throughout college football, I believe basketball does allow some games to be played to be eligible to redshirt. I think if varies by conference. I read somewhere where some conferences have a 4 game limit while others have up to 30% of games.

If you play in any, you burn the redshirt unless you get injured and have a medical redshirt. Anthony Grant was talking about how the NCAA should adjust the rule to be more like football in December.

I think this is what I was reading a couple of months ago. A lot of information here so I assumed it was correct. Maybe not?
