Richmond at the Times-Dispatch plant. Sadly the practice of local papers being printed out of market is becoming more and more common in the industry. I didn't realize the copy deadline had moved to 6:00 p.m. I thought it was 9:00 p.m. Either way, it is far too early for a daily paper.
Just to remind people who did not know, Harry is a proud graduate of ODU. Perfect reason is hire him. Yes, the VP was losing sports writer and Harry took the ODU job, to add additional salary. He is a great writer but his biggest problem (no matter how bad) is he doesn’t mention the negative and things that need improving. Furthermore, Harry, Jim, Miller and other’s, had a good product to hit the front page of the then good VP.
But I do like to study Harry’s box scores. It tells me who is shooting, making FT/3pts, turnovers, assists, rebounding, % of shots and attendance.

Yes. I agree.
I like the box scores too. I'm thankful that Harry does them.

You never see ODU box scores in the VP. Furthermore, they always are a day late for any scores that usually start at 7PM, except for the ACC or major big games(if possible).

Box scores are available real time in almost every sports app.

The southern Miss game stated at 8 PM, our time. Knowing it would not be in the VP Thursday, I figured something would be in today’s paper. I realize we all may get different additions, but I saw nothing, not even in the short write ups for each game Wednesday. If true, going, going gone. I do like the front page, but it’s time to go to the computer addition.

RE: Virginian-Pilot coverage of ODU
I recently canceled my subscription. When they asked why, I told them the only reason I purchase it is for their coverage of ODU sports and the reporting has been very lackluster in that regard. I may re-subscribe next fall depending on how I feel.

I don't expect reporting while our flagship programs are in the dumper. Don't really want it, either!

If you are looking at CBS basketball scores, they show some box scores or just recaps of the game. Some just show final scores. I’m really not sure what you are looking at or where to find it.

There are tons of apps that show real time box scores. At times, its a little delayed on ODU for some apps but ESPN will be live and up to date. There is not need to wait until the newspaper the next day to read box scores.

If I don’t get them on CBS app by 10:00PM, I don’t stay up till later and wait for ESPN, which only have sports. Most of the sunbelt games are over by 9:30. I try an watch as many sunbelt games, till they are finished.

We must have ticked off the VP, further. This morning’s paper had nothing about the MAC challenge, but did show on the front page bottom a picture & story of the Hampton game against Hofstra. Hampton’s record is 5-19 & league 0-11. HUM! At least ODU has a better record in a stronger league. Of course that is my addition, that comes aroun 6:30AM.

Story this a.m. in Pilot. Headline and story say Chaunce Jenkins doesn't hold back in assessing Monarchs. Doesn't hold back = We are struggling. Really? Great reporting. From KD = Kids are handling it well. Anyone buy this BS? Yes things better since dumping Allette, but this team was doomed to failure before Jeff was sidelined.

Let me ask you, is this what a beat writer is supposed to do? I agree that a fair assessment could include the roster construction prior to Hawaii, but would that be more for someone in the role of a sports columnist?

It would, but they have no one in that capacity other than for HS and human interest. It's a sad joke.
