Austin Pope ‏@ThePope_LOE Thanks to Coach Cronin and his staff at the University of Cincinnati Bearcats on the offer

Pope is a 6'6'' point guard from Compton, CA. He is rated as the #6 JUCO and #1 JUCO PG. Definitely an intriguing prospect. He apparently committed to Louisville last year and planned on walking on and red shirting and playing in 2014.

He has been getting attention from UConn, Marquette, Texas, Georgetown, UCLA, USC, UNLV, California and San Diego State have reached out. Washington State, Oregon State and Colorado have extended a scholarship offer.

If you haven't seen a kid play, their offer list is the best way to gauge how good they are. Pretty impressive list.

PG is up for grabs next season at UC. He would have a chance to compete to start immediately.

But the ongoing saga is where does the scholarship come from?

Oops, so he is. Considering I'm on a 2014 recruiting thread, I should have picked up on that.

Florida & Kansas offered 2014 SG Jared Terrell, while NC State, Texas & Kansas are offered 2014 PF Abdul-Malik Abu.

Terrel and Abu would be a complete shock at this point.

No not really. I would be surprised if Abu was a Bearcat but Cincinnati is in pretty well with Terrell. He recently stated Marquette, Providence and Cincinnati were recruiting him the hardest.

I'm really curious as to how UC being in the America Conference affects future recruiting.

I think as long as UC continues performs at a high level (winning 20+ games, making the NCAA Tournament, etc.) and Mick sends players to the NBA, recruiting shouldn't take much of a hit, if at all.

Agree they should continue to get good recruits. Might affect which recruits are interested. Not a real strong east coast flavor to the conference may mean more midwest and Texas recruits. But that has worked out well in the past.

They also have that newer assistant who specializes in the D.C. area, I believe.

Yes, Antwon Jackson. He has good connections to the DC scene, namely the AAU team the DC Assault.

The guy is a horrendous defensive player. I doubt he'd consider coming here.

Marcus. If you want recruiting info or discussion, I'd go over to Bearcattalk.com. Far more discussion over there about recruiting than over here.

Why Has UC not offered 2015 SG Luke Kennard out of Franklin, OH? Kid is a 4* that can shoot and the last time I checked we need someone that can shoot from outside. Duke, UK and other big boys have offered already. Am I missing something?

So, we are going to ignore a 4* in our own backyard because Duke and Uk offered...Not a good way to do business IMHO!

A kid that shoot consistently from outside would look nice in red and black!

Get Fletcher on the phone to get in this kids ear!
