If ND joined and it were N/S, Miami would be in the South. It would be the 4 Carolina schools along with FSU, Miami, GT and Clemson.

The Coastal is already made for ND. GT, Pitt, Miami, and could be crossover with BC easily.
I'm not sure if they'll keep divisions or go to something else. Just for the current setup though, the teams ND plays the most are already aligned.

Which would be bogus if that happened. It would be a complete joke if the divisions were kept and ND was given to the Coastal. That would mean the Atlantic got:
BC instead of Miami and VT
Syracuse instead of Pitt
UConn instead of Notre Dame
While also getting NC State instead of UNC which is the name program in North Carolina. And I am guessing that is what would happen because the ACC is a joke.

If you don't see the favoritism for that division over the other, you are oblivious. And if ND joins, I am positive they will be in that division. The ACC will stick another crap team in the Atlantic.
Also once again (since you seem to have the IQ of your most famous football player/dog killer), I would rather have an ACC realigned the right way than the Big 12. But the Big 12 schedule would be a lot more exciting then what FSU is stuck with now.

RE: ND - ACC talking 6 games? - Blaudschun
Will everybody PLEASE STOP IT with the "Coastal division is ready made for Notre Dame" garbage!?! The Coastal division - like the Atlantic - is nothing more than a horse made by a committee. There was no master plan. It doesn't even have the right teams for ND. I'm 90% sure they want to play BC, Maryland, and probably Syracuse. I do not think they have any burning desire to play VT, UVa, UNC, or Duke in football. Yes they want to play Pitt, GT and Miami, but that's only 3 of the 7 teams in the Coastal...
If ND becomes a full member, the RIGHT thing to do is re-do the divisions immediately (or better yet, go to 4 X 4 pods immediately). As it stands right now the Atlantic division is better for ND because it spans more of the states they want to play in... IMHO.

I hope so, it's too cold and gray in November in South Bend for a semi-annual road trip.

Sissy. That is how football is meant to be played, in the mud, snow and cold weather. :)

For what it's worth, I'd of rather had Pitt in the Atlantic too, and a cross over with Va Tech.

I think that ship has sailed. If the ACC were willing to add ND nonfootball sports with eventual full membership, they should have voted for it in 2003. I don't see any thing coming that might force ND to join a conference for football, so why would they.

If they kept the current divisions, I'm sure ND would choose to be in the Atlantic. They don't need 2 games in North Carolina and 2 in Virginia. They'd rather be spread out and cover as many major markets as possible.
But I don't think they'd keep the current divisions. I also don't think ND would join as a full member. If they did it I think the ACC would re-division into 4 pods because eventually I expect the NCAA to allow conference semi-final games.

What exactly was there in 2003 to force the Irish into the conference that isn't there now in 2012?
They couldn't do it in 2003 unless they expanded to 14 since they couldn't wait to get a championship game,

I think the point was that Notre Dame was negotiating from a position of weakness in 2003 but they are stronger now. In 2003, Ty Willingham was coach and the team was 5-7. Reportedly the Irish had already agreed to full membership with the stipulation that the ACC had to give them 7 years to play out already-scheduled future games, etc. Had the ACC agree, ND would be a full member as of this season...

To be honest, I'm skeptical that ND was ever willing to join the ACC back in 2003 eventhough there was an article stating as such. The Irish can have every thing they want as long as they stay independant. Even all the talk about them joining a conference (which has been going on since the 1950's) is good for them. I reinforces them as clearly above everyone else that any conference would take them but they're too good to join a conference.
They will throw their non-football sports under the bus and keep them in a depleted BE even if UConn and Louisville move on. The BE will stay strong in Basketball and that's really the only other sport that matters.
What's different now? The BE is a little weaker but their bowl prospects just got a lot better. Would they join the ACC just to have an Orange Bowl tie in? I doubt it because the Fiesta is waiting in line to sign them up if we don't. Their TV deal is going to be competative, they still don't have any trouble signing BCS teams in October and November, the BE is a basketball power full of Catholic schools. What's not to like for them in their current situation?

RE: ND - ACC talking 6 games? - Blaudschun
Keep in mind that the ACC is considering Notre Dame as its OPPONENT in the Orange Bowl... if the Irish joined the conference they'd still need an O.B. opponent.
Fiesta Bowl is not comparable because it's an access bowl, which means they can only take teams in the pool selected by a committee... the Orange is a contract bowl who can take teams which otherwise would not qualify (e.g. Notre Dame) if they want to.

Skeptical? Did you want to poke your finger in his side too?
Why are conferences formed (at least the ACC anyway)? To be able to compete against your peers. Notre Dame is an academic peer to the schools in the ACC, the real sticking point is are they a social peer?
