Who is that?
It is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette who is now branding itself (legally) as Louisiana. Louisiana is the perfect replacement for Tulane in CUSA. It is the 2nd largest university in Louisiana, just spent $300M in on campus improvements and is about to announce a fully financed $100M Master Plan for athletics to improve all facilities and upgrade football to 52,000 seats. We sent 40,000 to the N. O. Bowl last year and were their first pick this year to return, likely playing either E. Carolina or Rice. Don't let LA Tech posters keep comparing us to ULM. Night and day differences. Louisiana is a Top 377 university by Princeton Review with nationally ranked PhDs in Computer Science, Engineering, Business and Nursing. Louisiana is a Rockefeller Institute of Government Top 100 public research university. Louisiana is a Top 10 fastest growing R&D universities in the US. Louisiana is a Carnegie Nationally Ranked Research University with a RU/H (Research University /High Research activity) rating, similar to Ole Miss, Auburn, Baylor and Alabama. Louisiana's research level is over $60,000,000 and growing and is more than double all UL Systems schools combined (including ULM & LA Tech). Louisiana's endowment is over $125,000,000 and growing and is more than all other UL Systems schools combined (including ULM and LA Tech). Louisiana has 17,000 students with projected enrollment to over 20,000 within 5 years. The combined statistical area per the 2010 US census has 560,000 people within 30 miles of Lafayette and over 800,000 within 50 miles of Lafayette (considered Acadiana) and doesn't include Lake Charles or Baton Rouge. Lafayette is considered the capital of Acadiana or French Louisiana. Louisiana is a perfect fit athletically, academically, and geographically for CUSA. When the real facts are known, I hope we are given consideration and that people are not swayed by negative posts by certain LA Tech posters.
I'm not going to argue with you on this board about what is legal and not legal. It's ******* confusing to call yourself Louisiana and that is the only fact anyone really needs to know.
Well, Oo La La for U La La! Our posters have no influence over ULL (or ULM) getting an invitation to CUSA.

I don't really care who it is (if anyone at all). If CUSA decides to reload again it will most likely be a Sunbelt team regardless.
My hope is that WHOEVER is added will have online fans that are respectful and decent people.

The best teams to build football would be Ohio and No. Ill. No Ill is a possibility but Ohio will never leave the MAC.

I would think that you'll see WKU, MTSU and Florida Atlantic added, perhaps along with NMSU or ULL.
However, you might also see the Sunbelt aggresively go after La Tech, UAB, USM, Charotte, ODU and FIU. Who knows?

I have to admit, ECU will be hard to replace. Tulane, not so much. Having said that I'd like to see MTSU and WKU, although I'd kill for Ohio (just don't know why they would want to leave the MAC.
I agree... La Tech technically already replaces Tulane; we stay in LA- Tech the best team in LA anyway. We will a media deal to negotiate in a few years so we need to play market game to some degree. That said MTSU's market is basically the same size as Tulane's. They make sense from that prospective. I think they are a must if we go back to 14. There is no one available that can match ECU on the field. ODU and Charlotte both have the potential to later. So #14 could be anyone: FAU- Market/ FIU; WKU- no market/ program improving; ARK State- near Memphis/ potential; NIU- market/nice program; Ohio- no market/ won't come; don't think we should take more move ups. Otherwise JMU, Appy.

CUSA needs to add WKU, MTSU, A-State and either Texas St, ULL or FL Atlantic. Sadly this would cripple the Sunbelt but all the schools will make the jump and would add some decent teams to CUSA. We would still have a fairly tight footprint.

So if MTSU and WKU are added, USM slides West?

North Texas fans: Who are the teams the Sunbelt would most hate to lose? Which ones are perennial winners in football and basketball?

I can't think of a program that all the others would hate to lose. FAU would totally remove the Sun Belt from Florida and really hurt recruiting. It would probably force the Belt to replace them with an FCS Florida team. One that would probably not be their top target and weaken the conference. That would really hurt.

RE: Who replaces Tulane?
Some thoughts:
1) I think we have to go to 14. Protects us from more loses- divisions not to large to be completely seperate.
2) We now absolutely have to create more seperation from the Sunbelt. Adding FAU helps FIU's fan base- hurts SBC in south FL recruiting. Has market.
3) We need to replace N.O. market for future Media deal. MTSU does that while providing a FB program and fan base that seems ready
4) West with Tulsa, Rice, UTEP, La Tech, UTSA and NT is strong. East needs the help. Adding MTSU & FAU provides 2 programs to UAB, FIU and Marshall. When ODU and Charlotte come in USM moves west.
5) If we lose UTEP we add NMSU; Tulsa- ArkST; USM- WKU

RE: Who replaces Tulane?
I am going to approach this as a business decision instead of a football decision. We lose Tulane and the N.O. market,: we replace them with Georgia St. and Atlanta's market. We lose ECU a football school, we replace them with MTSU a football school near Nashville. We add WKU and get back in the KY market and FAU for recruiting and the market (that gets teams into FL annually instead of every two years.

I'm hoping for WKU and MTSU for purely basketball reasons and they are well rounded programs in both sports which is a plus.
UAB WKU MTSU UTEP Charlotte ODU Tulsa and maybe even Marshall could keep CUSA at least a 2 bid league perennially with maybe even a third.
we lose some of our worst teams in SMU, Tulane, ECU, Houston, and even UCF at times... those two schools from the SBC could help our conferences overall RPI

RE: Who replaces Tulane?
It is just interesting the sort of things people here value and what sort of illusions people live under. As an example there is a lot of love for Ohio which I sort of understand but I doubt that many here realize that Ohio has not won the MAC since 1994 in basketball and football since 1968. That said they are currently pretty good in both so I can see why you may want them. THat said I don't see Ohio leaving the MAC for CUSA. The only foe they care about is Marshal and frankly they can afford one non conference game to play them in every sport making CUSA not needed.

RE: Who replaces Tulane?
I normally don't like being reactive but I prefer the do nothing scenario on this one.
By adding so many new members last round it's given us a chance to wait and see.
MTSU, WKU, FAU, TXST as well a ton of FCS schools aren't going anywhere. Even if CUSA were to lose 4 more teams each and every one of those schools would accept an invite.
