Pretty amazing feat, since no SEC team could manage the feat.
Point taken, but in those days Alabama *typically* played "big" games (always Auburn, always home games against Tennessee, usually home games against LSU, etc) in Birmingham. Still a very impressive win by USM, of course.

Alabama also -- not every year, but frequently -- would play a game in Mobile against Southern Miss or Tulane or LSU. That habit stopped about 1969-70.

Only two teams in Bear Bryant's history beat him in Tuscaloosa....Bear's comment was something along the lines of, "That Collier kid can play!"

In those days Legion held like 85k were Brant Denny only held 60. Bama played i think 3 games a year in bham.

Whats bigger about the streak was that bryant only lost 2 games in his life at home, his first ever vs florida and us.

Wise words Mr. Blazer.

It is my hope that ECU will continue to play CUSA teams in OCC games in FB, BB non revenue sports. I expect that will happen where it fits scheduling.

It not called negotiation for nothing. Who does not highball their initial figures when they are working on a deal? Of course 300m is not going to happen. I bet it will not be 10x less though. Look for between 70 to 90 million. This is not Aresco's first rodeo.

Bryant said, "Ah gess ah jess caint coach em no moah" after the game, and was dead by February. Reggie Collier killed the Bear.

Bryant Jr. avenged his father by pushing his drinking buddy Ellis Johnson for the USM coaching job.

LOL, I think a pack-of-day of Chesterfields for 50 years played a role, too.

(Just kidding... if we're playing at TSU, I guess we have to pick up.)

I think that older USM fans can appreciate this.....and I think I can post this without it being offensive. If it is offensive, I'll delete this post.

I worked with a guy that was about 20 years older than me and played at Itawamba, 1 year at Memphis State, and 1 year at USM from about 1946-1950. He tried to attend a USM or Memphis game when he could work it out in his schedule.

1970 USM VS top 5 ranked Ole Miss....he attends the game with a life long typical OM fan. Willie Heidelberg, the Golden Eagles first black player scores 2 touchdowns and USM wins by 14 or 16 points. That was USM's first win over OM and while it doesn't seem so now, it was a really, really big deal at the time.

On the way home, the OM fan that he went to the game with said, "It's bad enough to lose to a rag-tag bunch that doesn't even have uniforms that match, but to lose with a black* running back scoring the winning TDs makes me want to throw up."

I think that anyone who played against OM in their "glory days" can appreciate how that conversation went.

*he didn't use "black", he used what you'd sadly expect an old time ole miss fan to use.

That's pretty typical of SEC fans in my experience. Hell, Bama fans willl sexually violate you at Krystal Burger. Racial tolerance isn't even on their RADAR.

I was just a kid when that happened. My older brother was a student at usm and was home for the weekend. Listening on the radio to the little southerners beat the Johnny Rebs led by Awwwwchie Manning, I saw my older brother cry when the game was over. I never understood that until i got older and experienced some rebs for myself.

If you factor in for year-of-birth (which makes a huge difference), Ole Miss fans hold the same sort of views about these kinds of issues -- and express their views in the same sort of language -- as Memphis fans, USM fans, Tulane fans and frankly fans of most schools around the South and around America as a whole. There just isn't that much difference.

The BE is no better than any other league left out.

Sure they're better. The rest of us would have been THROWN from the room.

So that makes them better? I don't follow your logic.

Not "better", just better paid.

They're all in the same business, though.

I think this has been the big issue that people dont' understand.

Does anyone remember when the first four (Houston, SMU, Memphis, UCF) did get their invites? We ALL congratulated the fans of their schools for getting what they wanted, but we did say that we thought they were making a mistake with what we all thought was a lateral move, and that if those schools stuck it out, C-USA as a whole (a rising tide lifts all boats) was in the better situation.

Some of us even pointed at E*** as being the instigator of this fiasco (I think it was mostly the USM fans that were ripping E***), while a few Marshall and western school fans said the fault of this entire thing fell on the footsteps of the Big East Conference itself.

But it was (again) certain fans that started the trash talking about leaving everyone else and the rest of us were just 'dead weight', 'trash', referring to C-USA as the "mistake", and other such statements.

But then I think the disappointing part was a number of soon-to-be ex-conference mates were trying to put on a smiley face over here (we'll miss you, hopefully we'll play again in the future) but then go over to the BE board and RIP on our schools (Trash schools, don't ever want to see them again, etc.), and once they got called out on it, just decided to rip on our schools on here as well.

Heck, the ONLY departing schools fans I have no real "beef" with as a group have been Memphis fans... for the school that had been trying to get into a full-basketball conference for so long, they're the ones that have been the most "praiseworthy" for the lack of vitriol about their departure.

Now have some of the C-USA school fans been perfect? Nope, but they've definitely been the minority, and usually from a defensive posture in the discussions.

Tulane gets trashed regularly on the BE board, the C-USA board, and the realignment board. Hell, we probably get trashed on the Mtn., WAC, MAC, Sun Belt and C7 boards, too, although I haven't personally seen that.

We will continue to give facts and the Aresco Conference lovers will continue to counter those facts with their opinions and then wonder why we laugh at them.

Good luck to them. I will miss Memphis the most & while I won't lose sleep, prefer ECU to stay as they are my favorite football rival besides Southern Miss.

Interesting tweet today from MHver3 regarding the Big East

MHver3‏@MHver3

Many names out there on who they'd invite. Marshall is a very real option. So is a MWC merger. I'll keep you posted as this unfolds.

FWIW, many interesting tweets from that guy. Not sure how crazy he is. Mostly tweeting about Georgia Tech/North Carolina to the B1G, FSU to the B12. In other words, the collapse of the ACC.
