Ouch.
I'd fire the entire staff. There's no good reason for Syracuse getting destroyed like that. It's one of the worst losses in program history, and this Syracuse team has more talent than some of the other horrid losses.
Not only did Marrone screw us by fleeing CNY, he screwed us by fleeing after the bowl game. Steve Adazzio would be our head coach right now otherwise.
We cannot afford to wait and see if it works out. If we do and it turns out he is indeed not the right guy the program may never recover. The end of the Coach P and GRob era crushed this program and it's fanbase.
Other than the State game Shafer has looked lost and his coaches clueless in every other game we have played. It has been total amateur hour.
Unless he turns things around and gets us to 6 wins I believe he has to go. We are losing the small number of fans that Marrone brought back. Another swoon period and this program is done for good.
Also it is time for the university to pony up and pay for some quality coaches. This half-assing it on football salaries now that we are getting paid in the ACC needs to stop.
I'm not ready to pull the trigger on HCSS yet, but the MAC-level assistant coaches need to get pink slips. We need to pony up and get top level OC's and DC's. We also need quality position coaches period
I don't like his temperament. I don't see him yelling obscenities at opposing coaches (Dabo) as passion but rather as immaturity. His game management has been horrible and he has shown zero ability to adjust during the game.
Saying he is learning on the job is unfair because that implies he has learned from his mistakes. He and his coaches looked no more prepared for GT than they did week one against PSU.
The job looks well above his head.
We can argue the obscenities all day without resolve, so I won't go there other than to say that although I tend to agree with you, I can also acknowledge that there is another school of thought.
I think that his ability to adjust during the game is more complicated than you are making it sound. That was actually his strong point as DC, which means that he does know how to adjust during the game, at least defensively. The fact that our defense isn't adjusting shows that he isn't getting the support from his assistant coaches that he needs. The OC has never called plays before and our offense looks lost, and the DC got his job through nepotism. That has to end.
In my opinion, we need a guy like Atkins who was an excellent position coach and a very good recruiter (especially in Georgia), we need a guy like Mitch Browning who was a good coach and a very, very good play caller IMO, and we need HCSS to take a bigger role in the defense and we need a DC like John Anselmo was wasn't a great position coach, but was a GREAT recruiter in NY.
Combine that with a mentality that we had in the 80's when we had Nick Saban as a GA, Jim Tressel as a QB coach, and Tom Coughlin as a RB coach. We need to be a place where the best come to learn the ropes.
I think that HCSS has too much potential to throw away. He just needs the right people around him. I do agree, though, that our position is too fragile to not give him adequate support. If we care about football and are seriously committed, we will write some checks this off season.
