RE: "Affiliation"
It gets so tiring of watching so called "journalists" try to create news. The Big East is no more relevant than the American in basketball...and as we have seen, probably less relevant.
UConn is not going anywhere in breaking up its sports. ESPN is not giving UConn football a BYU type deal and UConn would forfeit any CFB playoff money if it went independent. So that would be a loss of TV money and playoff (BCS) money. How would they fund their football program?

RE: "Affiliation"
This thread is missing the obvious affiliation option for UConn. The ACC.
The ACC should offer UCONN and Cincy roughly the same hybrid deal as Notre Dame. All sports membership except football. Plus a 4-game football scheduling agreement with both Cincy and Uconn. Plus they will be part of the ACC minor bowls deal.
But UCONN and Cincy would not be eligible for the ACC CCG or the orange bowl. And Uconn and Cincy would have to get their own tv deal.

Sorry. After having watched a team in the BE for many years, IMO, as well as the opinion of many others, hybrid conferences don't work, plain and simple. Too many different interests/agendas. It works with ND because, well, they are ND. Not going to work with anyone else, IMO.
