My co-workers thought the trash team that ruined Marshall's season was their field goal team.

I just wish Marshall was as good as some of their fans believe they are...

if they were we wouldn't have this topic.

Of course some of you fans want back in a conference that you can actually win. I don't blame you, losing sucks.

After ONE I repeat ONE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP and two good seasons some of you want to dismiss the other 9 seasons where Marshall went 1 game over .500 a total of TWO I repeat TWO TIMES.

Hell Marshall is lot closer to going back to those 9 seasons of losing than you are at being becoming the powerhouse you fans believe you are. This isn't 1997*2002 those years are LONG GONE. Hell I don't blame Marshall for wanting to go back to that...

but one thing is totally different

it's not 1997 any more and Marshall is a ONE TIME conference champion in 11 years in a conference they think they are too good for. ONE TIME!

I disagree. While this Wall Street Journal listing is not about brand, it is about value of the football team. Marshall is fourth behind UTEP, North Texas, and Rice.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/how-much-is-...76?tesla=y

Southern Mississippi is also a strong brand.

The problem with C-USA is our strong brands are all regional. From my Texas perspective, of course UTEP and Rice are strong brands along with Louisiana Tech and Southern Mississippi.

And our eastern programs have the same perspective about Texas.

Really, what school made the CUSA soccer championship in both men and Women. VBall hasn't had a losing record since Mitch Jacobs has been in Huntington (Jacobs hired in 2003). Marshall tennis is always strong and in the last 2 years John Mercer has signed 2 4 star and 2 5 star girls. They also start the season this year ranked 42nd in the nation. Marshall just hired a new Swimming and Diving coach a year and half ago and well all he has done is have them break 12 school records last year and 3 national records.

Try again....

A question how many conference championships does Marshall have in the 11 years you played in CUSA?

I bet that number will be less than you have fingers for on one hand. Hell leave out the thumb and you might still have a finger left.

TOTAL for all Marshall sports programs?

Gosh, if you aspire to be in the MAC, who are we to stop you. lol

That being said....if there is ever a CUSA split and a few select Mac schools want to be part of a new Eastern Conference then I could see that possibly happening down the road.

You don't get it. Our basketball team is in Texas this week as we speak playing in front of maybe 1,000 people. Why spend money flying around the country being gone multiple days for less money and less exposure to play teams we have no history with when there's more money to be had, less expenses, and more exposure in a bus league playing teams we have a history with.

You've won 2 bowl games and 1 conference championship and beat Marshall twice. We get it, good job, proud of ya.

A move makes sense for MU. Maybe not the rest of the conference but for Marshall I think it's worth thinking about.

You got me there Polk. 9-8 FIU & WKU, 7-10 UNT trying to get rid of their coach and a 3-and-too much losses to count FAU. Kid maybe on to something ...

You think 8-9 in the MAC would get the kid's respect? 01-wingedeagle

It will always be Marshall's call to move to the MAC. I just don't get the logic of your justifications. You are 8-9 and 4-0 in conference. You lost more than 75% of your games against teams from OTHER CONFERENCES. So the kid is correct.

You can't blame WKU for an inability to close out the perfect season, at home! So it didn't matter if you were in a bus league or flew, you were home.

I have seen MAC BB boxscores with 1k+ attendance.

As to all this talk of "brand", if the figures being thrown around are true then the "brands" are clearly not worth what we all think they are.

They're not leaving a conference they've been in since the end of WW2 to spend more and make less and divide our possible lesser pay even more.
Every one talks more regional G5 conference and tightening up the belt with all these realignment pipe dream scenarios. Marshall going back to MAC is a simple easy move to a regionally friendly G5 where they can possibly increase the amount of money coming in and decrease the amount money going out.
Only hang up is playing a midweek home football game and saying good bye to USM who could be scheduled ooc from time to time. Not being in the same division USM might not be on future schedules anyways.

only if the sched heads are idiots....

you have been making some good arguments.....

things are most definitely going to change again.....

I'm in the captain's chair looking at if from the Leonard McCoy perspective of, "Dammit Jim, I'm just a doctor that is only a fan!"

essentially, I've almost become immune at this point.....I'm just an old dude that is tired of all the bs.....I miss enjoying the purity of the sport.....I'm trying to find my way back to that thinking....

it's getting to the point where it's too much of a pain in the arse to ponder....and I'm doing my best to not be bitter....

there is nothing about any of this I like.....from the most extreme tangent that southern miss would've been invited to the SEC a few years ago, I would still say the same fk'n thing....

all of this and how it has been mismanaged relative to the whole is just wrong in my mind....it's why I made my first post on the realignment board that I haven't viewed in over 3 yrs now....

that's just me....it's hard to enjoy this current attempt at 'phishing' as it is being ripped out frumunda cheese without a nibble....

1,634.5 miles away played only 4 times in football and not since 2010. Marshall and UTEP might as well not be in the same conference.
Make more spend less in a regionally tight conference with old friends. Its worth looking into with UMass leaving.

Agreed. Here in a couple weeks when CUSA meet for their annual spring meetings multiple scenarios will be laid out for consideration. Dont be surprised if CUSA considers doing what some would consider unconventional......expanding to 16.
