With Fertitta’s backing, Houston has the resources to offer someone like Holgorsen $3 million plus. Lots of people think Holgo would take it
We know Holgorsen calls an almost unstoppable offense and IF we land him here back here hope he brings a bright defensive minded coordinator.

Exactly. He's Tubby Jr.
Strong is another that might be considered "splashy"---but I don't personally think the guy is much of coach unless you happen to have an experienced Jr/Sr NFL ready QB locked and loaded.

I would deal with the aftershocks of a Briles hire before hiring either of those 2.

After attending the Texas-TCU game, charlie needs to be a defensive assistant somewhere. He was lost.

Wasn't defense the problem for most of his time at Texas? He is a great recruiter, so if he could get his defensive mojo back, he could be a darn good hire for someone at DC.

UH begins coaching search in wake of Tom Herman's departure
Mainly offensive issues causing the defense to be on the field constantly. Hopefully he can join a good staff and learn how to run a program

I really believe the only reason he was so successful at Louisville is because he had an NFL caliber QB masking all of his mistakes.

That's my take as well. Most any coach can look good playing the college game with an NFL ready QB.

I think Strong was successful at Louisville b/c he actually did have control of the football operations... Unlike UT, good luck to anyone who thinks they will.

He had plenty of control. He dismissed a lot of players right out of the box. Nobody stopped him. It was his own decision to gut his program and put the rebuilding project behind schedule.
The biggest issue I have with him is I saw zero progress from year one to year 3. In my opinion, he would have survived if it looked like they were making progress. Instead, they were losing to Kansas. The program was going backwards. People act like the pantry was bare when Charlie got there. The reality? Mack was fired for going 8-5, 9-4, and 8-5. The team wasn't up to Longhorm standards---but it wasn't a dumpster fire. Charlie took over and they couldn't even make a bowl two out of his 3 years.

Spot on - and frankly, I don't think the players UT has are that good of football players (pretty good athletes though). I think Herman will take them to a bowl next year, but don't think they'll be contending for the Big XII title. Could definitely be wrong.

There are a number of teams in the AAC West that could not only contend, but probably win the Big 12 championship.

I think the real possibility is Holgorsen using the threat of moving to Houston as a way to increase his salary and contract term at WV.
If Holgorsen has a rocky relationship with the AD, that same AD may well help Holgorsen clean out his office Such a leveraging move when the marriage is sour doesn't typical end with a handshake and a smile. I believe Holgorsen was hired by Oliver Luck, and AD's who inherit coaches who they do not get along with typically end with the AD calling a search firm. If said HC is a fan favorite and is winning, the AD hangs on to him for as long as he can tolerate, and if said HC starts to flirt, the AD saves face, let the HC walk, and spins the outcome as HC xyz decided to move on.
There is much to like about the Houston job, it has the potential to be the preeminent program of the "have-nots", a real thorn in the establishments arse, just like Utah and TCU were from 2004--2010.

Kiffin and Sarkisian would BAM it in Houston. You guys should get on a plane to Tuscaloosa and make him tell you no. The next step is there for your program if your willing to take it.
