Should be a solid game this evening.
I'm looking forward to the Hokies playing under the lights at BC in the 7:15 pm slot... hopefully they come out focused and avoid any hangover from the Clemson loss.

NC State is looking pretty good (much better than they did against S Carolina!).

This is the type of game against NCST that I was expecting when we joined the ACC.
And yes Kap, secondary missing Alexander is a big weakness.

NC State outgained South Carolina 504-246 and had 29 first downs to South Carolina’s 12. That was a complete choke job which is a shame because they would be a top 15 team at this point.

Yes, that and the Wolfpack is actually playing special teams now.

32-25 NC State. You can tell the Louisville offense is sluggish without Pitino, but a few three pointers and they're right back in this thing.

I'm officially off of the Sirmon train. The tackling was atrocious tonight, these players are better than this.
Great game Pack.

Awesome. This keeps the chance alive that we break last season's four tombstone wins this year. We've already won two tombstone games this year.

I was thinking along similar lines. Clemson is one bad Alabama game away from getting the #1 seed - in the Sugar Bowl - and booting the Tide out to Pasadena... which I would absolutely LOVE! Let the Bammers spend all their bowl money traveling out West for a change!

To your point, UofL has about the same talent overall than every other team in the conference except Clemson, FSU and Miami. That being the case, the difference can only be coaching. Now, Coach Petrino has coached Lamar into being a Heisman Trophy winner at the QB spot which is a hell of a job. Arguably, Lamar could win the Heisman at multiple positions.
An argument could be made by reasonable people that, exactly like former Head Coach Charlie Strong, Petrino is a brilliant coordinator and teacher of QBs but not so much as a Head Coach.
If true, no harm in that. Just an observation.

What's a "tombstone game"? Top 25 win?

I believe it's a top 25 win away from home.

Maybe on paper. From what I've sen this year a lack of physical talent is IMO the biggest problem you have as anything, and I have seen all or part of the Purdue, UNC, Clemson and now NC State games. I don't care who your defensive coordinator is when your defensive backs are physically unable to keep up with a WR making a double move there is absolutely nothing he can do.
And while your first team DL may be decent Clemson showed, and NC State to a lesser extent, that there is a huge drop off once you get to the second string and if you are disciplined enough to keep running the ball eventually you'll wear the Card defense down and you can start gashing them.
I know the popular thing is to blame Sirmon but this season was set in motion several recruiting cycles ago. You simply did not have the talent there to replace the attrition you had from last year's defense.
