Re: analytics

Don't you think most fan bases side with whatever fits their narrative best?

Here is one fact about WSU: they didn't beat a single NCAAT at large team during the regular season.

Here is another: they finished 8th (I think) in Kenpom.

I don't think it's irrational for me to be skeptical about WSU this coming year as a top 5 team (and being better than UC), considering they lost to every good team they played except Dayton.

Likewise, I can see how you all are incredibly excited about your squad this year (minus the injury concerns). 8th in Kenpom is impressive and goes to show how dominant WSU was in the MVC. I for one am excited to see how that translates to the AAC, but hopefully it's not at the expense of a UC conference title.

I have another fact about WSU:

9-4 in the NCAA's in the last 4 visits.

The Shockers eat skeptics for breakfast.

The "didn't beat an NCAA tournament team" is so obnoxious and irrelevant and such a low sample size it does not matter one iota. When you add in the fact that ZERO Wichita State fans will tell you we were elite with Conner Frankamp at PG the sample size becomes even more insignificant.

You know what's significant? Marshall's teams exceeding or meeting lofty expectations year after year. Marshall's teams competing in March every single year. His worst performance in the NCAA tournament since 2005 was losing by 10 in the first round. With Winthrop. As a 14 seed. That was his WORST result. (Full disclosure: he had worse results when he still using Winthrop players from the previous coach). Bet against Gregg Marshall, you will come out looking dumb. You can be skeptical all you want. But I am not skeptical. I'm 100% sure. It's not like people haven't been skeptical of WSU every single year. The only thing that changes every single year is where the goalposts are located.

You literally just made my point for me.

Different fan bases have different narratives. What I stated were two FACTS.

I watched WSU against UK (and a couple of others games) and was definitely impressed. They clearly had a good team last year and I think they'll be really good this year. But I am allowed to be skeptical about a team (as a top 5 lock) that didn't beat anyone with a pulse (other than Dayton) and have their two stars nursing foot fractures. Just like you can scream from the top of the mountain about KenPom all you want.

It's not like I'm saying WSU is a bubble team. I think they are two really good teams in this conference for next year, but I believe UC will be better. And, no, before you ask, I don't think UC will be a top 5 team. I think both are in the 8-12 range.

I decided to look up Cincy's NCAA tournament history and you know what? Maybe you should just keep your opinion to yourself as it relates to overrated/untested teams...

You've enjoyed the luxury of being a member of the Big East for 8 years... 8 years of guaranteed at-large bids to the NCAA tournament with the only qualifier being a .500 league record; 8 years of loaded schedules with every brand name program in the country dropped on your lap; 8 years of a sea of top 100 recruits washing onto your shores every spring with nary a lure being cast; 8 years of sucking on the tit that is a major television contract along with an avalanche of NCAA tourney credits in a league where as many as 8 teams get an invite...

You had all this and you've only "earned" one Sweet 16 since 2005?

Over the last decade our coaching staff has wasted thousands of hours cobbling together a schedule and praying that it'll be enough in the end; we've recruited tirelessly against teams that pay for players, offer hookers, and/or have the huge advantage of conference/sponsorship/NBA affiliation; we've had to go to the alumni to pay for private jets, million-dollar salaries, and facility renovations... we've had NOTHING given to us. Every single accomplishment we've achieved has come through the hard work and generous donations of Shocker Nation.

So you'll forgive me if I tell you to **** off when you complain about us not beating someone when we've beaten a MASSIVELY greater number of someone's than your beloved Bearcats, and we've done it with an INORDINATELY smaller number of opportunities.

3 Sweet Sixteens, 1 Elite Eight and a Final Four since 2006.

That is all.

PTS: 13.2
REB: 7.6
AST: 2.6
BLK: 0.5
STL: 1.0

In Barkley's final 2 games of last season (during the AAC tourney) he had:

vs Temple (W 80-69): 26 points, 16 rebounds
vs SMU (L 77-81): 24 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists

He has taken over as the leader and best player on the team. We are all expecting big things from Kentrell this season!

I hate playing against Barkley, he is a do it all player and I think he would be much better respected if he played for a better overall team.

Agree on Barkley for sure.

I'll add that Tyson for ECU could easily explode this year as a Senior. I thought he was absolutely terrific as a Freshman. But for ???? reasons, his development since then seems hindered?

JF, his logic is that no MVC tournament and no MVC auto-bid = No Shockers in NCAA

That’s really interesting because WSU has won exactly TWO Valley Tournaments in its history. So outside of 2014 (where they went undefeated and were getting a 1 seed anyway) and last year, every time you’ve seen WSU in the NCAA’s has come by the way of at-large bid.

Is your friend more of a football guy?

Nah, with UVa having much more success on the hardwood than gridiron, he is more hoops oriented. It is just full throttle ACC basketball confidence laced with little love for those outside the power structure (even Gonzaga).

Not that we (AAC) are necessarily considered a power league but more so considered than the MVC (especially since Shockers' addition for us and subtraction for the MVC). I think we're going to have a 14-4 or better conference record for WSU bet with me taking the over, of course.

I think the only obvious thing is why you have been banned from other boards. The only lock I see is you not making it through the season on this either. Do you always have to come off like a complete jack azz? Grow up, your act is tiresome.

I honestly think this will be the best all around year for the league since its inception. 1-2 Wichita St and Cinc battling for the top spot with anyone really in the 3-7 group as potential challengers (SMU, UCF, Uconn, Temple, Houston) with Tulsa lurking (Just feel like the other teams are notch better and not really a fan of Haith). 9-12 I feel like Tulane is making strides and with Memphis and USF as total rebuilds but may actually be improved from last year if they gel quickly. Then there is ECU. Should be an exciting race.

Good post.

Losing magney to turn pro hurts tulsa's post depth, something that i think will keep us from competing for top 4 spot in a physical conference. I wouldnt count memphis out yet, tubby does some of his best work with under the radar teams. We should know by conference play how well memphis will do. I agree on tulane, but think next year they will make the big jump to compete in that 3-7 range. I like usf to rebuild now with the new coach and to become competitive over the next few years. Hopefully this is Lebo's last year, nothing else to say for ecu, sorry guys. This league has the potential to be really tough, i doubt we ever have the perfect storm of last year, where four tradition laden programs are down.

I think the only obvious thing is why you have been banned from other boards. The only lock I see is you not making it through the season on this either. Do you always have to come off like a complete jack azz? Grow up, your act is tiresome.

When we arrived here it was made clear each school was allotted 1 troll. You don't seem upset about the others on the site. I guess that means he's winning?

You read other Trolls telling people to **** off? That's not trolling its frothing at the mouth baby talk.

Eh, that was over the line, but he has been pretty good at keeping play in bounds. I hope there isnt a one troll limit per school, sometimes thats all that keeps the internet going 02-13-banana

I assure you I'm not frothing but the reference to baby talk is frighteningly accurate.

I received a PM from a Memphis fan thanking me for reigniting the passion in the Cincy fan. He said they've been in the dumps ever since the B.E. breakup and are just now starting to show signs of life. CB can be the catalyst that unites a village... just like the war on terror. 03-nutkick

Did Wichita actually beat anyone any good last year or did they just play a competitive game against Kentucky?

I don't feel like looking up their schedule, but I don't remember any big regular season wins.
