RE: Is there any way that the AAC Champion doesn't get the New Years Bowl invite?

Even if USF beats UCF, think about that. USF would have ending wins over a ranked UCF and a ranked Memphis, and finish 11-1.
No way in hell Boise would jump USF OR Memphis.
So, the ONLY thing that matters is IF Memphis beats ECU.
We do that, and Boise is out. No way anybody jumps any of the 3 of us.
Does anybody here realistically think ECU will beat Memphis? It could be close for awhile, or maybe not a blowout, but Memphis is winning that game. Too much on the line for us to look ahead. Book it.
I agree the only scenario the American doesn't get the access is if ECU wins and I find that to be highly unlikely. I still don't think USF is ranked though after that dreadful performance on Friday. Guess we shall see though.
That part I agree with. And I think USF is the least likely of the 3 to win the AAC. But as long as Memphis beats ECU, USF will jump Boise if USF wins out.
So, if USF wins Friday, I expect Quo to be front and center pulling for Memphis on Saturday, lol.
My paramount goal is to see USF get in to the P5. This surpasses any other goal, including glory in a particular season. Would rather USF go 0-12 the next three years and then get invited to the ACC then go 12-0 the next three years but then remain stuck in the AAC. And while i don't think results on the field are the only thing, or even major thing, that matter, they do matter. Also, when i think about all the G5 schools that could get a P5 bid over USF, they are all in the AAC*.
So what it boils down to is this: the only time I want the AAC to get the NY6 bid is if it is USF, because I don't want any other AAC school to get that glory and thus look better in the eyes of P5 evaluators.
So no, I am rooting 100% for ECU, because that way, if Memphis wins the AAC, Memphis might not get the NY6 bid. FWIW, you can consider it a sign of respect that i do regard Memphis as a real threat to our P5 hopes, one of the biggest threats, which is why i don't want good things happening for you.
And no, I am not worried that if Memphis loses to ECU, that could hurt USF (if we beat UCF) by devaluing a win over Memphis in the AAC title game. I have zero doubt that if USF beats UCF and Memphis, USF will surpass Boise in the CFP and get the NY6 bid, no matter if Memphis has lost to ECU or not.
And no, I am not swayed by the fact that P5 expansion is at this point unlikely. I agree it is unlikely. Still, it can happen at any time so we always have to be in the best position possible should it suddenly be on the table.
* Schools like Boise, Colorado State and SDSU are more likely to get a PAC bid than USF, but that's because USF will never in a million years get a PAC bid so that's irrelevant.
One problem with your thought process. In order for USF to win a NY6 bowl every year, they NEED a strong conference slate to play against every year. Would it help if USF went 12-0 and played a Sun Belt-ish type schedule every year? NO. So, while yes, I agree with you, I want USF in the NY6 bowl yearly to look good to other conferences, that simply won't happen without a strong conference schedule. We need UCF and Memphis to win, then defeat them. That gives us the most value and ensures a NY6 bid. They'd say the same thing, I'm sure.
I respectfully disagree. ECU is of course in the AAC, so it's not clear why the AAC is stronger if Memphis beats ECU than vice-versa. Mathematically, it's a wash, and beyond that, one could argue that the conference needs ECU to get better more than it needs Memphis to be even better than they already are. But even if there is some "AAC is stronger" benefit to Memphis beating ECU, it is likely trivial. AAC strength is what it is.
So no, IMO we do not need Memphis to beat ECU. If Memphis beating ECU was needed for us to get the NY6 bid, then yes, I'd root for Memphis. But I don't think it is. We beat UCF and Memphis we will get the NY6 bid no matter what.
But, if we don't get the NY6 bid, whether because we lose to UCF or UCF loses to Memphis, then I'd far prefer no other AAC team gets it, and really the only way that can happen is if Memphis loses to ECU and then wins the AAC title.
So ... Go Pirates!
