ODU going up to Boston and handling Northeastern, then losing to JMU at home, just reinforces that conference play will be a battle every night for all teams.

Hofstra wins at 4-0 UCLA, 88-78. Hofstra was 24-30 from the FT line, and fouled out UCLA's big man with 8 minutes left. Certainly no home cooking advantage for UCLA. UCLA was not as good as Stanford, but a win in Pauley is worthy.

Hofstra will be on the west coast through Dec. 1st. Classwork is always tougher on a Southern Cal beach.

It is well known that Stanford is a "smarter" school than UCLA. Stanford saw what we did at Oklahoma and prepared accordingly. UCLA saw film of a 2-2 team and probably thought that all they had to do was show up.

Well, for W&M, the team's ego was probably a little inflated after the 4-0 start. Now they can get back to work and practice the things that need practicing. Unfortunately, the confidence boost that Hofstra got might carry them for a while .....

It would appear that UCLA fell apart down the stretch whereas Oklahoma stepped up their game against us down the stretch.

Looks like Hofstra-W&M will come down to who can impose their will ... very contrasting styles.

Thanks for posting the link to that article. The UCLA coach sounds like he is tightly wound and beyond intense (but, yes, that is a pressure cooker environment).

Here is a sentence from the article that I found interesting: "Another reason the Pride won despite getting outscored 42-12 in the paint and outrebounded by nine was because it took 30 free throws to UCLA’s 18." That part about outscoring opponents in the paint and getting more rebounds is exactly what I wish W&M would do with our Twin Towers (or Double Trouble, as Jay calls them). If we do that, then that part about being outscored at the free throw line should NOT happen in the CAA. In fact, our bigs should be the ones shooting more free throws. I'm still wondering why the Tribe hasn't been playing more this way. It might not be as much fun for AVV as playing on the perimeter ....but, on the other hand, I have heard rumors that winning itself can be very fun.

Cronin was tightly wound and intense before he went to UCLA. The Cincy-Xavier games were wars. Both coaches were tightly wound. Both coaches have moved on (Louisville and UCLA).

Towson wilts under full court pressure down the stretch, loses lead and game to Buffalo, 76-73. Towson with 22 turnovers, 5 in the last two minutes. Towson plays St. Joe's for last place in the Charleston Classic.

2-0 day is good. Nice that Hofstra won both of their west coast games. Nice win for Towson. St Joes did beat UConn earlier, though St Joes is not a great team this year. Towson has let a couple games get away from them now, which is discouraging.

Stanford handling Oklahoma with ease on a neutral court, 37-24, at the half. Puts the West Coast trip in perspective. Stanford is good.

...and Oklahoma was the one that had been listed in "Others Receiving Votes" for the past couple weeks. Bet Stanford gets a couple this week.

I’m telling you, I think some of the postgame commentary didn’t appreciate how good Stanford is (or at least might be). Onwards and upwards so time to move on, but I think they are a legit good team that made us look bad.

Not a great OoC night for the CAA.
2-5, and W&M had the only D1 win.

RE: CAA and Other MBB Games of Interest
The CAA is going to be a wild ride this season. Team Rankings predicts six teams (Hof, NE, CoC, UD, Towson & W&M) to finish from 12-6 to 10-8. TR gives all six between 11% & 19% chance of winning the tournament.
