RE: Transfer Portal
There are already a lot of big name QBs in the portal. This is just chaos. These guys will just hop between P5 schools until they head to the NFL. What's the point? The NFL has always found talented players no matter what team they play on or what level they play at. The P5 schools in particular are just shuffling the deck every offseason now.
There isn't even the illusion of what's best for the players academically. This is a big business NFL farm system.
I was a fan of college football not just because of the pageantry, traditions, unpredictability, etc...I also liked it because of how you had to recruit HS players, build a team over several years at least, develop the guys you have, build a PROGRAM. Fans could get familiar with players over their 4 or 5 years on the team. Now with free agency, you can just plug and play, or turnover the entire roster a la Deion Sanders and leave a bunch of young men out in the cold. And players can just bounce between 4 or 5 teams if they want. This is the cold hard calculous of the NFL, but without the million dollar contracts that offer players some protection and offer the team some stability.
It's a ruthless business that gets more ruthless every year.

You should be allowed to transfer ONCE and then sit out a year if you do it again.

RE: Transfer Portal
CMU just lost Bauer.
QB is the most precarious position in a coaching change. New staff wants to put their stamp/style on what is considered the most important position on the team.
But even without that, QB2/3 is obviously unlike RB2/3 and WR2/3 and so on. You could literally never take a snap during the season aside from rare mop-up duty late in a blowout. That's the high risk of the high reward of being big man on campus if you're QB1.
I'm sure back-channeling - or illegal "tampering" - is commonplace and some higher end QBs are given wink-wink assurances by the pursuing coach that they'll be starter at their destination. Otherwise you now run the risk of simply riding the bench at College Y instead of College X.
As far as WMU, we're down to Wolff (1 year left) and that's it, so we obviously need QBs with a few years left in the tank, whether it's by portal or HS. Not interested in a one and done, otherwise someone like Noah Kim might've been an interesting target.

I believe that is the rule.

RE: Transfer Portal
There is a lot of speculation that this could be the busiest and craziest year for the transfer portal yet. A year ago everyone thought the portal would cool off now that the last of the COVID bonus eligibility years are being used up, but it appears to be the exact opposite. Especially for QBs.

Someone have a count yet on the number of guys who not only aren't getting fat NIL cash but lost their full ride scholarship and aren't playing any ball at all?

Agreed...it only takes one injury to instantly elevate you when coupled with a staff that knows you and trusts you. Moving to a new school starts that whole process over.

Not in college hockey, didnt know that was the rule in football.
Should be that way in ALL college sports.

A number of programs are taking one HS QB and either a JUCO or Portal QB in each class. Mason Reynolds is the current 2024 HS commit.

RE: Transfer Portal
Nebraska's coach Ruhle was just quoted that a "good QB costs about $1 million and a great QB costs about $2M thru the portal". Of course he is taliking about the Power 5, but this is absolutely crazy and out of hand.

Thank the NCAA for burying their heads in the sands about compensating players for years, leading to the Wild wild west we get instead. They do it with everything and it burns them every time.

Stone Hollenbach is apparently also in the portal. We're clearing out the QB room.

Lester really screwed that up. Hollenbach was awful.

Yeah. That was a head scratcher. Must have been the Alabama mystique. Even the players wondered what was up with that.

The person responsible for entering players in the portal has entered the portal due to Carpal Tunnel syndrome...2 years remaining.
