WMU offers New Hampshire QB Max Brosmer. Led FCS in passing yards this year. Played at Waldo in 2022. Also offered by Minnesota.

RE: Transfer Portal
Phillip Dunham, Indiana DB, has entered portal. Cousin of EJ Biggers and Louis Delmas, 2 Bronco greats, he was a 4 star recruit and started all 12 games this year for IU. Like out of reachfor Broncos but some good bloodlines.

Brosmer is great. He lit up CMU for 493 yards and 4 TDs. On the season he had 3,459 yards, 64% completion percentage, 29 TDs against 6 INTs. And that was against good CAA competition with a so-so O-line and meh receivers. I'd be surprised if we landed him, since he's already getting P5 offers.
It's also interesting that we are offering QBs in the portal. I know we just lost Bourguet to the portal, but is the staff not comfortable moving forward with Wolff as QB1? We certainly wouldn't be bringing in a guy like Brosmer to be a backup to Wolff.

Yeah, looks like Brosmer only has one year eligibility left? Played 2019, 2020 (Covid doesn't count), 2022 and 2023. I assume 2021 was a redshirt? Not a fan of 1-and-dones at QB unless absolutely desperate.

None of them were-are legit Big Ten QBs.
Another part of Tucker's legacy.

2 were 4 star freshman thrown in terrible situations. I wouldn't count them out quite yet.

Leavitt was a supposed 4-star QB from Oregon.
And yet Smith didn't recruit him to Corvallis-OSU, not exactly the CFB capital of the Great Northwest.

RE: Transfer Portal
Transfer portal exoduses within our state may (or may not) be relevant to WMU's off-season recruitment.

Ok…I called it a few years ago with Rocky Lombardi. Watch for Minnesota’s Athan Kaliakmanis to NIU.

RE: Transfer Portal
Another Minnesota QB also entered the portal today. 6’4” 235 lb. pro-style QB from Walled Lake, MI jumped into the portal too. Just finished his true freshmen year with the Gophers. 3-star recruit coming out of high school. Watch for EMU to be in play. Wonder if Coach Taylor tried to recruit him last year?

RE: Transfer Portal
These moves are about to get ruthless. At what point can coaches basically tell guys to transfer? On the other hand, imagine at any point not having any scholarship QBs on your roster.
Both Salopek and Bourguet is a surprise.

Just my opinion, but I don't see it as that big of a surprise. Cush's offense is predicated on quick reads and releases. Neither of those are their strong points as quarterbacks. Salopek has a strong arm and good head on his shoulders, but I don't know if I've seen him throw more than half a dozen "spot" balls. He waits to see the receiver looking...by then, they aren't open anymore. I think Bourguet does a decent job extending plays and can be quite creative, but his feet get really happy really early. The offense they want to run is all about spots and timing.

I get that, but the thing about the portal is the illusion of more playing time. There's the exact same number of starting college QBs as before the portal. Unlike other positions, there are very few teams where you can still get 25 snaps a game as a backup.
So you transfer into another program, that also has a transfer and freshman coming in. If the coaches take a liking to the other shiny new object (as we fans often do), you're done. If I'm a QB that the coaches have liked and started, and the current starter is a class ahead of me, I'd ride it out. If I'm an upperclassmen with a sophomore cemented ahead of me, that's when I would head to the portal.
