As for the "all-white prom"...

On a personal note, I know that I would likely get along with no one who attended that prom. I'd have nothing in common with them, as you could probably just smell the bigotry from them a mile away. That said, the most we could/should do is scorn them, show our social disapproval, and mock them for being the narrow-minded morons they are. But we cannot, and should not, enact laws barring such a function that's occuring on private property and being privately funded. Doing so would seriously jeopardize the individual's natural right of freedom of association, no matter how grotesque we find the event in question. Unless the kids use an event like this to preach & encourage hate-crimes, there's no reason to use force to stop such privately-held 'proms' from happening.

Come on, guys. Are some of you actually supporting the idea of using police force to shut down an assembly of people at a private function, because we may detest the reasons behind their "invitation list"? Can't anyone see the dangerous slippery slope that would develop from enacting laws like this? Will people be subject to having their invitation lists to any future private engagements reviewed by a government agency, if someone files a complaint?

Hypothetical scenario: Let's say your neighbor - who openly dislikes males -decides to throw a Superbowl party. Let's assume she only invites females, and doesn't hide the fact that she wouldn't invite any guys to watch the Superbowl. It's "Girls Night" at her house.

Would you call the police on her?

I despise the reasons behind the "exclusively white" prom, and despise Aryan Nation lunatic meetings in the woods of Idaho. But the ACLU and other civil liberty watchdogs are absolutely right. Unless violence or crime is being encouraged/incited in a "rally" type setting, one of the basic freedoms we have is associating and meeting with who we each wish.
