How would that help C-USA? It hasn't had a bowl-eligible team not make a bowl in ages ...particularly one with 8+ wins.

I'm thinking that bowls would pay more if they knew they'd be able to choose from ~48 teams instead of ~12...

This could be ignored if the conference of the 6-6 team had a contract with the bowl. Since The Big 12 had no contract with the Liberty Bowl, how was Iowa State taken over LTech and MTSU?
Per Wikipedia: Starting with the 2010–11 bowl season, the rule that required the selection of seven-win teams before any 6–6 teams was eliminated
THe only reason this rule was abolished was because it hurt AQ conferences more. Why the hell should a 6-6 team be taken over a 9-3/8-4 team? It is completely idiotic. There are way to many bowl games to begin with. There shouldn't even be 7-5 teams bowling.

And here is the heart of the matter. For as good of a season as we had, we finished 3rd in a conference that had one bowl tie-in. Not only that, the conference is dead now in FBS football. No leverage from the commish and no leverage for us as the Liberty Bowl is moving away from CUSA after this year.
Our AD made a bad decision, but there will be some ramifications for Indy too. Shreveport is our largest alumni base. We play games there quite frequently. The title sponsor for the Bowl game is owned by a LA Tech alum. Their pique at not being our first choice was just as poor a decision as the one LA Tech made. You can bet somewhere down the line this is going to hurt the Indy Bowl. They have struggled for years to keep a sponsor. The bowl was in danger of folding in recent past because they could not find a sponsor. If they lose this one over this flap, could be goodbye to a bowl that has been around since 1976.
In this whole flap there were too many adults(LA Tech, LB, and Indy) acting like spoiled children and our university, team, alumni, etc paid the price this year. Don't expect this to have a long term effect for our program, but it will be short term negative until next football season. As your post indicates, if we win 8+ next year we will be in a bowl because of our conference and all of this will be in the past.

You might be the only La Tech poster I have seen to acknowledge this.

I agree, but the ramifications for La Tech might very well be harder to deal with. Monroe now can rightly or wrongly claim that La Tech ducked a head to head game against them. At this point it depends on who has the better PR firm. Regardless, it is going to hurt recruiting.

I agree everybody acted like children, but the idea this will only hurt this year is myopic at best. #1 The Independence has a bunch of conferences to look towards for future bowl bids. They aren't hurt as much as you guess.
#2 If you don't think Monroe is pointing out the fact, true or not, that y'all ducked them in living rooms for the next few years then you are beyond help in regards to reality. Not to mention the fact that the better Sun Belt teams are going to be able to say that you ducked a Sun Belt team.
It might not be the truth, depending on what story you want to pay attention to....but the truth is it has been reported as fact enough that La Tech ducked the Indy Bowl to avoid Monroe for it to be fact.

I dont see where the Indy Bowl acted like children. They invited ULM who accepted, then they invited Tech and waited around TWO days while Tech lobbied other bowls for an invite basically telling Indy to wait because they were looking for something better. Indy invited someone else but not before calling Tech on Sat explaining their intentions. Indy nose is clean on this. The more I see the more its obvious that Tech flatly refused to play ULM which as I have said elsewhere I dont blame them. Any more positive attn to ULM will tip the scale in their favor from a fan base standpoint.

lol @ PR firm.
Valid enough points but I do not think you understand the level both programs are at right now. On the recruiting side, I'm sure....no I KNOW that is what they will say. However, it does not change the fact that Monroe is a commuter campus with piss poor facilities. I agree with LT95, I do not think that it is going to hurt us (at least, not nearly as much) in the coming years as it will this year. The football coach is the lowest paid in FBS....like 250k a year. He will move on soon enough, the next guy will try to sell this story with less convincing fashion.....it doesn't change the fact that LT's tradition and facilities are far better, have a much stronger following, and will be playing in a better league.
