Let's keep in mind though who the measure is based off of. That would be the BTN and the BTN makes more money off of basketball than it does football.

60% of the proceeds from the BTN are from advertising. Advertising dollars are directly related to the amount of live games you can have advertising on. The replays bring less funds but they still get you better money than the talk shows and information spots that the Networks put on too.

The question for me is how well will the SECN be able to monetize SEC baseball? They will still make good money on basketball but no way they can charge the same amount in advertising that the BTN can for spots during Big Ten basketball on BTN.

When these networks show football they do not show the best match ups, please remember that. CBS gets the absolute best SEC match ups and then ABC/ESPN soak up the rest of the quality match ups. The SEC will be showing the tier 3 matchups on it's Network. That is why it has to monetize other sports in order to reach that lofty 1 billion mark.

Which sports will get it there? Is Baseball really that big of a draw?

If the expected expansion does occur there will be more football, better basketball, and yes there is a regional market for SEC baseball. You also forget that the SEC wins regular titles in Swimming and Diving, Track & Field, Tennis, Golf, Equestrian, Gymnastics, and are highly competitive in women's softball. And unlike in most parts of the country coaches shows are still watched.

I'm not worried about our content.

Yeah. People in Arkansas, Louisiana, and South Carolina will watch. Baseball is a revenue sport to some SEC schools.

RE: SEC to officially announce network deal in April
I think another sport that in other parts of the country isn't big, but it is for the SEC is womens basketball. SEC with 7 teams in the field of 64- with all 7 being at least 9 seeds(and 4 top 4 seeds). Also women's gymnastics in the SEC is big. To me, the Aux sports for the SEC are the strongest in the country.

Problem is more folks would raise their hands for that than would raise their hands wanting the ACC network FREE OF CHARGE!!!!!

Wow. Another Bash of the ACC for no reason.

Ask the P12 how those Directv negotiations are going. Problem is these channels want to be on the basic tier and the providers want them to be in a sports tier.

Some big battles coming up with B1G, P12, LHN, & now SEC.

You have to look at the percentage of the country. The SEC network has a huge pct of the country- got 2/3 largest states in Texas and Florida. Also SEC is in the eastern part of the country- not like the P12. LHN is way too niche with only 1 program. Big Ten network is doing fine.

One other point, the BTN has tier 2&3 games, the SEC Net will only have those crap tier 3 games.

we'll have to see what the SEC and ESPN negotiated. Wouldn't shock me at all if SEC got some tier 2 games in their package.

Also- for the SEC network- the basketball(men's and women's), gymnastics, and baseball- will do great. In some ways, the SEC Network would be stronger than the Big Ten network- because those other sports are stronger(and in some cases MUCH stronger) than the Big Ten.

And what Crystal ball gives you that information? When expansion is done, the SEC will have more content to show for football and basketball. And our "crap" games as you call them get plenty of eyeballs too, with minor exceptions. I might not bet on Vanderbilt versus Kentucky in football, but that's about it.

The discussion was about the SECN, prior to your comment about NYC. So the BTN wasn't germane to this discussion, except in pointing out that the BTN has paved the way for the SECN to get carried...

Nobody in SEC country cares one way or the other if their network gets carried in NYC, except for a few SEC grads in the NYC area, and DirecTV will be a perfect way to bypass NYC cable companies for those people. DirecTV is usually the first to pick up such things, and anyone unable to get their SEC fix via NYC cable companies will switch...

I don't think it is - yet. But I don't really care one way or the other. I don't watch the BTN now, and won't watch the P12N either...

Uhh the Big Ten is significantly stronger than the SEC in men's basketball. Women's basketball is roughly a push. Baseball ok the SEC is definitely stronger and the South likes the college game. Gymnastics I admittedly know diddly about.

RE: SEC to officially announce network deal in April
WBB isn't a push- SEC has 5 top 4 seeds- Big Ten has 5 top 8 seeds(with 3 being 7/8's).

NYC ain't the south, dude. The vast majority of southerners could care less about what Yankees do...

Lewis Grizzard said it best when he said, "If you like it up there so much, Delta's ready when you are"...
And the South has what to do with the BTN?

One other point, the BTN has tier 2&3 games, the SEC Net will only have those crap tier 3 games.
we'll have to see what the SEC and ESPN negotiated. Wouldn't shock me at all if SEC got some tier 2 games in their package.

Also- for the SEC network- the basketball(men's and women's), gymnastics, and baseball- will do great. In some ways, the SEC Network would be stronger than the Big Ten network- because those other sports are stronger(and in some cases MUCH stronger) than the Big Ten.
Uhh the Big Ten is significantly stronger than the SEC in men's basketball. Women's basketball is roughly a push. Baseball ok the SEC is definitely stronger and the South likes the college game. Gymnastics I admittedly know diddly about.
If it involves women running around in skin tight suits that leave little to the imagination, the south is all for it...
